Im trying to figure out a good method for training Arcana.
I've got 450 ranks in the skill.
Right now my method is
charging my armband with 8 mana four times then casting.
I've also done the method where I do 10 in an armband then ten in a wristband then cast. Neither seems to be great. Anyone have any advice? Its taking about 40 minutes to lock arcana using both these methods. I think the 8 mana charged four times goes faster at this point.

For Arcana via cambrinth, there are three main things to know:
1. Charging is everything. 2. Focus teaches essentially nothing. 3. Spell doesn't matter.
At 450 skill, almost certainly the amount you want to charge is going to be the largest you can and still take 5 seconds. But feel free to test this by observing how much you learn from a single pulse and then dividing by the RT to get your exp per second. You might do better with 6 seconds.
Use a large cambrinth item, ideally something that can hold 60+, and a spell that will drain that much at a time (EASE will drain 68, MAF 60, Shadows 59, and technically FM could drain 110+). Charge the item until you get the "resists, only absorbing part" message (which still teaches), but avoid the "dissipates harmlessly" message you get for charging when already full (it teaches nothing). That's it.
Now is also a good time to "eat" your spare scrolls for Arcana exp. Each scroll you invoke will gain you about +12-15 mindstates. You can just harness lots of mana to forget the spells after.
Finally, a few people swear by other Arcana training methods like scribing things. I don't know much about those, but I'd be wary of trying them right now with 3.0 looming. Enchanting will be very different and these methods may go away.
