I understand enchanting is about to radically change, but I had some questions about the crystal minds.

They're talked about as if they're sentient, which brings up some odd questions. If they are truly sentient, how smart are they? Could they be trained to use magic and cast spells? Has the Moon Mage guild ever attempted to create longer term artificial minds, and if so, what for and what happened?

Are you actually creating a mind, or trapping an existing mind from somewhere else? And more creepy, if you use an astral guide up, are you "killing" it?

They're just a copy of a very singular part of the Moon Mage's own psyche. So one might be the embodiment of their anger, and another of their sadness, and yet another of their greed.

Individually, they never quite reach full sentience. They used to go insane before reaching that point because they are missing the balance of a complete psyche. Now they just hang out at nearly sentient, rather than become useless if not timed properly.

When combining 5-8 into an astral guide, at best it creates a sort of quasi-sentience built with limited parts that can only function in one way. Think of it as a programmed artificial intelligence. It may seem to be intelligent when viewed solely within the context of its function, but it really is coded only to perform very specific functions and cannot operate outside of them. Using up the charges is 'killing' it inasmuch as disabling Siri in your iPhone's settings is 'killing' her.

As an easter egg, originally there was an eight hour window between "nearly sentient" and "insane" where they displayed as "sentient" (being a sentient mind with no sensory input is what drove it insane).
