Apologies if this has already been addressed, but I don't play my empath much, though I've gotten around to dusting him off a bit. IIRC, mech lore was a factor in what shifts you were able to perform. Now that ML is gone, has this been replaced/removed?

Or maybe I'm just making it all up.

No, you're not making it up. I could be mistaken, but perhaps it has been replaced with Artistry for the purpose of the quest?

Mechanical lore was actually removed from the shift calculation several years ago in anticipation of the mech split.

Currently, the ability to shift primarily depends on empathy, but it also considers scholarship, appraisal, and charisma.
