Teaching of Empathy 02/20/2005 08:34 PM CST
Hello all,

Tonight the ability to teach Empathy to another through the use of the Teaching system was released for Premium Preview in Prime. Following is a synopsis of the ability:

Empathy cannot be learned through words alone, it is also necessary to either experience Empathy yourself (through healing, perceiving health, etc...) or by learning of Empathy through a link deeper than words. Therefore, it is necessary for the student to initiate a LINK to the teaching Empath in order to learn Empathy. A student who does not have an active link with their teacher will not be able to learn Empathy, and the teacher will stop teaching them on the next "pulse".

So, in order to teach Empathy:

Student must initiate a LINK in Empathy with their teacher (through the LINK command)
Teacher must accept the link
Teacher must TEACH EMPATHY to the Student
Student must listen to the teacher.

This is intended as a supplement, not replacement to current methods of Empathy learning. Also, it is entirely possible that the Link may fade after a while due to low concentration of the Student or Teacher, as with all links.

An Empath may only teach another Empath Empathy (since a non-Empath cannot initiate a LINK, they cannot be taught) and an Empath may only teach one other Empath at any one time (since a player can only be the target of one link at a time).

The ability is currently on Premium Preview and will be opened for general use in the near future.

For questions/comments about this ability, please post in the Empath folder on the Prime boards.

This is now live in all instances to all empaths.

Detailed information on this can be found in the GM announcements area (general or Empath folders). Questions or concerns should be posted in the Empath folders.

Enjoy!

Empathy Experience Update 07/14/2009 04:03 PM CDT
Heyo!

The experience for taking the wounds of others has been increased a bit. Give it a shot and let me know if it is too little, too much (yeah, right, like people will admit to this!), or just about right.

Increase to Empathy EXP from Healing 01/20/2011 07:39 PM CST
I have rolled in a change that should increase the EXP gains you see from training empathy by healing.

The increase is sizable. The idea behind this boost is to make healing the hands-down best method for gaining Empathy EXP. My goal here is to allow an Empath who makes an effort at healing to both be able to mind-lock Empathy by healing without unusual circumstances such as tourneys or invasions, but further, to allow an Empath to train to circle solely by healing at a reasonable rate if they so choose.

The EXP is very generous, accordingly. Training Empathy via healing is different from almost every other type of training in the game. An Empath cannot simply go out and heal patients whenever they wish to -- they must find someone both willing and wounded in order to train. The EXP is set accordingly.

If something changes to make wounds more plentiful in the future, that may necessitate a decrease in healing EXP. But we can worry about that if and when it happens.

This has been in testing for weeks now, so hopefully the numbers are good, but I do reserve the right to downtweak it if things just seem out of hand.

Feedback is welcome!

Thanks,

Melete
