STRA v. Bolt 02/06/2011 11:17 AM CST
Are they different kind of damage or something? No matter how high I jack up a STRA cast against clay mages, they just shrug it off. Bolt hits them easily. Does anyone know the reason STRA wouldn't work?

You gesture at a grey clay mage.
A crackling yellow haze forms up around your body, quickly pooling up into a small, cohesive cloud in front of you. It quickly lurches forward in an erratic bolt at a grey clay mage!
A grey clay mage remains completely impassive in the face of the spell!
The cloud impacts into its chain hauberk, but only makes a pathetic crackle before scattering ineffectually.
Roundtime: 1 second.

With a flick of your wrist, you attempt to send the spell energy cascading down its targeting matrix.
A grey clay mage remains completely impassive in the face of the spell!
A burst of blue-green light hurtles toward a grey clay mage!
The blue-green light lands a good strike to its abdomen!
Roundtime: 1 second.

You manage to collect a pile of coin.

Energy Bolt for you as an Empath is Life mana(cold damage). I'm fairly positive that Strange Arrow is not. From this I can only assume that clay mages do not like cold damage attacks.

My guess, based on it's messaging is that Strange Arrow is primarily piercing damage.

Clay Mages may be highly resistant to piercing damage.

The type of damage that Energy Bolt inflicts depends on the type of mana that you use. When you use life mana, it does cold damage.

Strange Arrow probably does a combination of puncture and electrical damage:

>>those impacted by it suffer an odd combination of up to dozens of puncture wounds exacerbated with electrical shock. It is hard to accurately describe how the victim is wounded, as the magic takes a whimsical delight in surprising both caster and victim.
