Actually, if you notice with all Snape did as he was running away...he was preventing Harry from doing something illegal in the heat of the moment (all the spells Harry was attempting to cast were Unforgiveables or very sketchy at the very least).

It would have been easy enough for Snape to stun Harry or Body-bind him, but all he did was try to prevent him from being locked up.

Agreed Obseden. He was watching out for Harry despite a deep hatred for him and his father when if he was evil, he should have been trying to kill him. At leaswt that was my interpretation. Plus I have noticed the pattern Reene was referring to. Bad guy turns out not being so bad in the end. Snape always seems to be a red herring. He is (one of) Harry's flaw.
