Depends on your combat style, if you're more inclined to do the heavy lifting yourself then Absolution will open up more creatures for you to have a direct impact on. Guardian spirit on the other hand can be a combat staple providing both damage, defense, and targeted magic training without the risk of empathic shock.

It's entirely up to you. If you get Absolution and continue using Weapons + TM spells as your primary means of killing stuff, you'll need to train strength and agility for weapons and discipline for the TM. You'll also want to pick up a damage dealing TM spell. This is one wholly valid option.

If you choose not to take this route, you'll want to get your TM up, and make use of Manipulate + GS to kill stuff. This route may potentially kill stuff a bit slower, but it lets you train Empathy in combat.

Personally, I think both are perfectly viable. I preferred the latter, as I wasn't interested in training weapons up on another weapon tert, and I don't regret it at all.

At a minimum, GS takes around 200 In Life Magic and Utility and the Utility Mastery feat, or 250 in Life Magic and Utility. Absolution only requires 150 in Utility, so your Life Magic should be high enough to let you cast that.

These are old numbers, I believe. In 3.2, Guardian spirit requires 250 effective ranks, so around 220-230 or so depending on life magic ranks. Absolution requires only an effective 80 ranks in utility, so around 60-70 depending on life magic ranks.
