Ethically speaking, it really depends on what your intended brawling does. I do not feel that hurting an attacking creature's self esteem by tipping it over or making it wobble is a bad thing.
Some might.
You could, however, make a case that doing the above so that some friendly manipulated creature can beat the snot out of it is unethical...
It really depends on how you role-play your character.
Clemency feels that since the creatures are aggressive towards him, he has some unwritten right to do what he can to protect himself. Short of straight attacking, he can do his best to make the creatures go away, whether they wander off or attack their friend is their problem. Perhaps it's their fault for being so intellectually devoid, and not so much my fault for being so darn charismatic :)
