actual TM ranks vs Bonused ranks 10/26/2015 12:13 AM CDT
So as I round my way to 1000 TM i'm stuck having a question that I've never really wondered about in the past but has sprung up now. Clerics have TM in their SOI so we can get up to a 20% buff. How does this then work with our align assuming we get say a capped substratum from a warrior mage. Do they both stack to give us a 20% bonus, does substratum give us a 15% buff to our base tm + align bonus, or does it not affect us at all since buffs to the same skill don't stack? Any GM input here would be greatly appreciated or anyone with a difinitive answer for that matter. Since this has been bugging me for quite a few days now.

They should not stack.

Cleric Align stacks with skill boosts, but bear in mind Cleric Align does not boost (or hinder) TM accuracy, it only affects the amount of mana you can put into the TM spell.

A follow up (and perhaps more accurate) question:

Does Tamsine's commune TM buff stack with 20% from substratum and 30% from align (for mana only)?

I'll split the mana out into similar numbers for ease of comparison.

Tamsine (20% dmg, 20% mana)
Substratum (20% dmg, 20% mana)
Align (0% damage, 30% mana)

Total: 40% damage, 60% mana.

Wait - I don't think a 20% buff corresponds to a 20% increase in damage. Or even a 20% increase in mana you can funnel into a spell.

I think it corresponds to a 20% buff to RANKS. Meaning if you have 200 ranks of TM, with a capped Substratum you now have 240 ranks of TM for calculating to hit and mana you can funnel into the spell.

I am curious to hear if Clerics can stack TM buffs. AFAIK, only Warmies can do that, ostensibly, with Pathways.

Though, now that I'm thinking about it, maybe that does correspond to a 20% increase in damage too. I'm not sure...

+20% TM doesn't directly translate into +20% damage. It affects TM accuracy, which does have an affect on damage, but it's not a 1:1 correlation.

I wasn't actually using those numbers to show damage. I was using it to show that the particular skill/ability affected damage. (Unlike align)

So you could do something like this...

Align (+20% Ranks, mana only)
Substratum (+20% Ranks, dmg + mana)
Tamsine (+20% Ranks, dmg + mana, undead only)

Totals:
Undead- +40% Ranks Dmg. +60% Ranks, Mana
Non-Undead- 20% Ranks Dmg. 40% Ranks, Mana
