Why isn't a cleric that seeks to perform rites or rituals on others rewarded for their selflessness (using their own devotion to boost another rather than themselves)?

So I had a thought. What if performing communes on others greatly reduced the amount of devotion that was drained, or rewarded you with with more experience. Unless it's a necromancer. That would have the opposite effect.
