Re: Of Enchantes and Men 01/30/2013 05:23 PM CST
Wow! I figured Raesh would be lynched because of this move. But everyone except Gonif is taking it in stride.

I actually completely agree with this change. Bard enchantes are... just plainly OP. But, being a Bard balances that out. If everyone and their mom was running around with Bard Enchantes it would severely disrupt game balance. I'm not convinced that Sorcery spells won't already do that, but at least the GMS can take Bard cyclic spells out of that particular equation.

Plus... it makes semi-sense if you consider them as the prior enchante style of casting. Although I kind of disagree with the reaasoning. I feel that sorcery is not about replicating how a spell is cast, as much as the effects and the manipulation of mana. For example, Bards sing their enchantes... It doesn't seem far fetched that a sorcerous user could take that same idea/spell pattern and force it into their OWN pattern, e.g., arcane sigil, or some sort of sorcery sigil. Not "enchante singing." But that's just my take.

I think there are lots of really awesome cyclics out there, but if a cyclic is overpowered, it's ovepowered. I don't necessarily believe that because they're limited to guild X that they're suddenly not overpowered.

But, once again, I don't think any of the Bard cyclics are necessarily overpowered. Maybe Aether Wolves, what with being an immobilization juggler.

I think that has more to do with the fact diminishing returns for status conditions hasn't made its way into the game yet.

The bard rituals aren't signature (Though non bards won't get mojo regen...).

As far as the signature thing - scrolls don't spawn of signature spells so that shouldn't be an issue - and if you really need a confound explanation for the cyclic thing I can always say, "A Naga did it".

That reminds me.... Call of the Sire. My favorite spell as a bard. Plz don't make it cyclic, i would like to use it on my other casters. :) Plz and thanks.

So as a War mage I like music too and learned some basic song spells from scrolls to practice with. So now I can't play/cast them because I am lacking understanding of elemental invocation and emotional control?

So whats the deal? Bard songs and cyclic ones at that are now Bard only?

Bard Enchantes(all of the Bard cyclic spells as of this moment) are Bard only.

Well that is a nice how do you do. So since I payed 300 plat for the two scroll songs sitting in my head I can't return them to the trader for a refund so Who do I contact on the GM side of things to get reimburse for their changes without warnings. Nothing changed was of my doing so I don't see where I should foot the bill for my loses.

Tev, out of curiosity, why? Sanctuary?

I had hopes for picking up some bardic cyclics for training purposes, but honestly, it's not that big of a hit to not be able to.

Okay, I think this is squashed now. Please cast and release pyre or aban, and then let me know if aban is working as expected again.

I kinda just threw utility in there. I should have said "non TM/Warding" if anything.

You deftly contribute enough of your harnessed streams to maintain your cyclic spell.
You sing in a lonely voice:

"My love has vanished,
Through my abandoned heart."

An asaren celpeze grows deathly pale!
The asaren celpeze slumps and goes limp. Its tail twitches once or twice, and the light fades from its baleful eyes.
An asaren celpeze grows deathly pale!
The asaren celpeze's flared crest wobbles, then collapses as the celpeze falls over and lies still.
An asaren celpeze and an asaren celpeze are weakened by the power of your enchante.

I can't seem to replicate it anymore (And the bug that I'm fairly sure was causing it isn't happening anymore that I can see).

Did you cast, release, and recast? You'll need to do that (or maybe die) once to fix things.

That won't affect your current attunement very much.
Though softly humming at first, you soon allow your voice to dance along the darkly melodic introduction to Abandoned Heart.

A drooling wildland goblin (2: solidly balanced) is moving to flank you at pole weapon range.
A wildland goblin (3: solidly balanced) is moving behind you at missile range.

Argh. Looks like the fix didn't take last time (Not sure how since I remember changing that bit of code and everything else I changed was still there... but so it goes.). NOW it should be fixed after a quick cycle of pyre or aban.

That is not how (currently) sorcery works.

You are literally taking a pattern meant for another mana type and shoving your own type in. The Sorcery skill basically represents how well you can compensate for the little mana quirks that are or aren't present with the new mana. And sometimes this causes it to blow up in your face.

This is why casting another guild's spells that use the same type of mana isn't sorcery, it's just... odd.

Could you take a bard singing spell and make it into a normal spell? As far as the magic theory that has been released, sure, but then it would be a completely different spell, not something you can do on the fly.
