You are mistaken, sir. This skill is abysmally easy to train :P

I don't have the encumbrance to carry around a 200-pelt bundle, and sitting around appraising gem pouches and assessing/appraising instruments takes quite a while to make any headway towards a good mind state. If you have any others suggestions, I'd be more than glad to hear them, though. I've got a 100-pelt bundle that I appraise in combat to add to creature appraisals to at least keep things moving, albeit slowly.

Integrate app into your combat script and just app critters. Teaches very high, and I keep app locked on all my chars this way.
If you use geniehunter or sf hunter both have toggles for it.

I use appr with geniehunter and it gets me to 1/34 even when I'm tearing through critters with SIRE up, appraising a new one every minute or so. Appraising my half-bundle every couple minutes in combat will get me up to around 10/34 by the time I'm done with combat and have everything locked.

Eh, this is the absolute best way that I'm aware of in the game based on my testing. Once you can keep a 200 pelt bundle on hand with you at all times, appraising it every 60 seconds will get you to mindlock in no time and keep you there. And you don't need to spend more time than 3 seconds for every minute :P

Honestly, I'd reevaluate what you're carrying around if you can't swing a loaded bundle. You outcircle me by nearly 20 circles according to the guild registry, so I either assume you went really light on strength and stamina or are carrying around a lot of stuff. Issus carries around one of every single weapon type, a couple extra armor pieces, and a loaded bundle and I don't have too many issues. Drop the weight, it'll be worth it! :D

It depends what you hunt. After the weight of skins got tweaked i found my barbarian getting overburdened so I went and weighed the skins of 2 different things that I hunted.
1 deer skin from elder deer was 8 -10 stones. <i forget exact number> 1 peccary tusk from pecc island on m'riss was 5. So, just about double the weight for something at approx the same level of skill to hunt. Its not unreasonable to try to find different things at the same level of combat if you find yourself getting overburdened when you weren't before.

Oh and last one, DR at any given time has a population of weenies that will criticize at the drop of a hat, don't take things personally it happens to everyone.

From what I've heard from high level Bards, you will want to 1) appraise a full untied bundle and 2) appraise/assess your instruments. Critter appraisal, as you noted, probably doesn't do enough to be worth it.
As for the bundle weight, you are a Kaldar. You have no excuse! What you should really be complaining about is item count. I don't know of any other skill in the game that requires you to keep 200 items on you in order to train.
>>prospectwalking 4 lyfe
As you've noted before Pureblade, this is really only good for if you want to keep appraisal moving, as opposed to locking it at high ranks. The other methods can be used for just movement or locking, and they don't require going to a specific location (a mine). However, if you like mining or happen to be near one it could be something to add on. I don't know how well it would work at the very high ranks though, and right now the RT is stuck at 8-12 seconds per prospect.
Finally, you might want to consider a very high value app pouch. I generally use gems that are worth 1-20 plats each. Again, don't know if it would work well at very high levels but might be worth a shot. I have a bunch of spare gems if you want to try it out.

This teaches worse than assessing an instrument and takes more time.

Here's the only script I bother with for appraisal now:
top:
put appraise my bundle
pause
pause 62
goto top
The end :D Keeps me locked, and I only have 134 items in the bundle currently. Experiment, see how many you need in there to learn while managing weight, and you'll be set.

Eh, it teaches fine for me. Granted, maybe you have more than 400 appraisal.
>>As you've noted before Pureblade, this is really only good for if you want to keep appraisal moving, as opposed to locking it at high ranks.
I generally don't lock appraisal with prospectwalking mainly because I tend to lock foraging before appraisal, since that's the primary skill used. But, no one needs to lock anything anymore in order to learn at an optimal rate. That said, I wouldn't really just outright reject prospect walking as an option, especially because it moves more than just appraisal. But as some data for just appraisal learning gained during prospectingwalking (granted, I'm lore secondary, but still...).
Talas Sagamat prospect-walking rounds:
start (7:07pm): 411 48% clear (0/34) +1.30
round I (7:11pm): 411 49% considering (6/34) +1.31
round II (7:14pm): 411 51% attentive (10/34) +1.33
round III (7:19pm): 411 51% understanding (14/34) +1.33
round IV (7:22pm): 411 52% studious (19/34) +1.34
round V (7:26pm): 411 53% cogitating (24/34) +1.35
round VI (7:30pm): 411 54% very riveted (29/34) +1.36
round V (7:33pm): 411 54% nearly locked (33/34) +1.36
Now, I'm not saying that takes longer to lock than combats and magic, but it seems pretty on-par with the time it takes me to lock most other lores and survivals. Pretty much the time it takes me to lock mech doing hard work orders, and I only have 349 in that. I'm also sure it's harder to lock at higher levels, but 400s ain't exactly low.
As an aside, that also got my perception (418) from clear to 28/34, and my foraging (490) from clear to 34/34.

Sure, but my point was that you could achieve the same goal (keeping it moving) with the other methods, and possibly lock with them too. So there's nothing particularly superior about prospect walking; it's just another option. My feeling is that it probably trains appraisal more slowly than the others, and requires a mine, but it may make up for it by also training perception and foraging. Granted, it would be nice if someone did some explicit testing.
Personally, I would train Appraisal with a bundle when in combat, keep it moving with assessing/appraising instruments when you're training instruments (which you have to do anyway), and if it's still not locked then either do more bundle (to lock faster) or go do some prospect walking if you also want some foraging/perception.
It may be that you could get away with alternating combat and instruments though.
