I'm betting that the real question will be how many times Bards die trying to find recalls in dangerous areas. Clearly, this is another adventure in pain, as per Raesh contest rules.

But for serious, this should be super good times!

Raesh, any chance you'd be willing to give a rough idea of the scholarship that one would need to find all of these goodies? If I find all but a handful of recalls in an area, I'd rather know that it was because my scholarship is too low rather than thinking I missed something.

Re: Scavenger Hunt 02/16/2011 01:20 PM CST
I'd have to double check the code, but I believe Recall Area will let you know there is one there even if you're too low to view it.

That said, while I won't give an absolute skill value (If for no other reason than it's not that clean cut) it's not really that high - and even the really high ones usually have a lower level tier. A reasonably trained Bard around 50-60th level should be able to get them all I'd think.

Go, Leilond, go! My first attempt was p3. Then I tried to get all of p2. Then I threw up my hands and went to p1. It was a great time getting to see parts of the world that I wouldn't gone otherwise, so part of the reward really was getting to explore. I'd really like to find the perceive history sites for p3, though, since I like how they drop you into the history.

Quite a few recalls and perc histories are on Elanthipedia. It doesn't mean those aren't part of the contest.

And, no, those are not the ones I was referring to as "outside the provinces".

I remembered that post and hunted around the moors and the chapel for a while trying to find anything in there, but I apparently wasn't up to the task of finding them.
Also, I don't see anything on the Percieve History page on Elanthipedia about the Darkmist Moore - or anything in Ilithi for that matter.

Heh, I had found the recall history page, but hadn't noticed the perceive history list until just a few minutes ago.
As far as the two in the moors, I hadn't known that "the Abyss" was that area back in the mausoleum behind the church. I'd been in there once to help acquire some Lanky Grey Lach claws for a friend, but couldn't figure out how to get in there to even look around when I was out looking this weekend.

Re: Scavenger Hunt 02/21/2011 12:35 PM CST
I assumed that post was about the two in the Abyss, since a) it's under Darkmist Moore, b) I'd been all over the rest of the moore and hadn't found anything, and c) they're about Death Squirrels, which were an invention of Skraltheon's.

So either there are two others in the Moore, or the two in the Abyss aren't considered to be outside the provinces. In that case, I have no idea what the three commonly known ones outside the provinces are (I'd thought it meant the Planar Telescope + the two in the Abyss).

For the sake of people keeping their sanity...

I am counting the ones in the Abyss/Moore as in P3, I have no comment as to how many of those there are, and the three outside of the provinces I was referring to are the aforementioned three in the Planar Telescope (It is three, not one).

Can you entertain the following question:

How many of these Recalls/Perceives require a non-Bard to reach?

I had found nearly all these Recalls before my hiatus, but I have a feeling that the ones that I am missing are due to inaccessibility rather than a lack of searching.

Cause I've searched. OMG have I searched. And I'm searching again, but am still unable to obtain the few that I'm missing.

Thanks

Good question... offhand I believe it is just the three at the telescope, but if you email a list of what you have I will check it against the master list and verify if this statement is but true.

UNGH

I guess I should have checked before asking, but it looks like I lost the files AND logs containing all my recall/perceive history information. Major Lorekeeper fail.

Anywho,

Last night I was only able to find the locations that are already listed on Elanthipedia for Ilithi (7 or so) doing a casual, manual search. Meaning I manually recalled the vast majority of rooms in all 'urban' areas in the province. I have yet to reactivate my Extreme Provincial Body Cavity Recall Reconnaissance Lockdown Search, which is how I found the majority of the spots you have numbered before my hiatus/file meltdown. (My file had a chart that looked eerily like yours). And by EPBCRRLS I mean using Genie and a kick-ass script to search all currently mapped rooms (automapper, not Ranik's) with triggers, logs, etc.

So for Ilithi, off the top of my head: There are a few guild-only areas that I highly doubt would contain a Recall/Perceive. The two areas I'm most concerned with are The Abyss/Darkmist Moor area (beyond the mausoleum) and beyond Graev's Gate/Dark Hand area. (Although now that I think of it, I can probably climb down there myself).

Oh yeah, this is in TF. Are all the Recall/Perceive spots live in all three instances?

So I guess to reframe my question and add to it:

1. Can you tell us if there are any (and maybe how many) spots that are inaccessible to a Bard alone (aside from the three at the telescope)? And by inaccessible I mean that by myself, with only my Bard abilities and using only common store-bought items (like a lockpick for instance). (I don't think there are any store-bought devices that contain Uncurse)? I understand if this is asking for too big a hint.

2. Room descriptions can change based on time of day/year. Would this change the availability or description of a Recall/Perceive?

Sorry for being so neurotic about this. I'm beating myself up for not uploading all my information to E'pedia before losing it!

Let the EPBCRRLS begin!

>>1. Can you tell us if there are any (and maybe how many) spots that are inaccessible to a Bard alone (aside from the three at the telescope)?

Yeah, I suppose the Moor could be a problem to get to alone. As far as I know it's just those and the telescope, but I could be wrong.

>>2. Room descriptions can change based on time of day/year.

Depends on how mechanically this is done. I'm going to go with "no" but there is a non zero chance of me being wrong (Though this would involve a combination of my crawler failing to find a recall, in a room using a very unusual mechanic, that was also set up wrong...)

>>Are all the Recall/Perceive spots live in all three instances?

So far as I know, yes, though I will admit I ran my crawler in Dev (for resource reasons) and cross referenced with Prime.

That said the vast majority of recalls are in old areas that I would be shocked to find are out of sync, and most of the newer ones I've personally confirmed are in all instances as they should be for one reason or another.

Thanks Raesh,

I'm brewing a pot of coffee at what is now close to midnight in order to crack this case.

Sort of related, in my ATK search, I've noticed a lot of places that didn't have a recall or perceive that made me lower my chin, raise my eyebrows and go "Really?" When making suggestions for said areas, is it enough to ICly justify why there should be more information, or are you looking for more some umph to the suggestions? I only ask because I'm a bit rusty on my Lore right now and don't want to muddle your inbox with mediocre suggestions.

Thanks for being upfront with my questioning!
GENT

p.s. Thanks for the welcomes! I actually secretly play Prime. I mainly use TF to explore the OOC side of things and to kill things, but also right now I'm obsessed with discovering these recalls (or rediscovering as the case may be) and exploring all the new areas that have been released since my hiatus. And can I say, that it has been really hard not to reactivate, due to all the incredible new releases over the past 5-6 months!

p.p.s. You will never catch up to my uber lore skillz. Although your weapon ranks made me drool and forced me to start rewriting my combat scripts.

The one site that pops off my head immediately for this is the room in Fayrin's Rest with Aurilae's Obelisk. It might even make for a great perceive history, since the text on the obelisk already relates the history as a RECALL would...
"The obelisk reads:
Upon this site one evening the bardess Aurilae Cui'Gweld entertained a troll general and his entourage for a night of stories and songs, preventing his army from attacking Fayrin's Rest until Elven reinforcements could arrive in the village. Her efforts were discovered the following morning, and she was given to the general's troops. Her spirit remains here, honored. Traveller, think well on Aurilae's sacrifice, and the value of a soul that weighs life with such refined sensibility. "

I found the missing recall in Dhralduum's Instruments. Looks like it was missed in the conversion to the current system. I'll get it put back later when I'm doing some other updates.

Please let me know if you find any other missing ones. Without a starting point (like I had for this one) it's a non trivial task to track them down.

This place might also be worth a recall in Ratha:

[Bay Cliffs, Monument]
The trees and bushes have been cleared away from the rim of the cliff. Halfway between the edge of the woods and the edge of the precipice stands a tall bronze monument. A couple of young men are lounging around and chatting near torches stuck in the grass. You also see a huge rock projecting over the edge of the cliff, on which a group of young people are standing and chatting.
Obvious paths: north.

>read monument
A bronze monument reads:
In honor of Captain Sraelhh and her crew, who gave their lives in the defense of Ratha and all of Reshalia. The cowardly Gor'Tog chose to raid when the Fangs of Ushnish were occupied with marauders from the east, leaving our home defenseless. Sraelhh, by drawing the ships of the the Gor'Tog raiders into Slo'Tami'Ashereh at the peak of the inbound tide, sacrificed her merchant ship in order to draw the enemies onto the rocks with her. Her memory is carved in bronze forever.

Also, does anyone know if the cliff diving in the room next door is tried to some type of Circle, Attribute, or a specific Guild (Ranger?)? Or is it just for show?

[Bay Cliffs, Projecting Rock]
The granite of the cliff thrusts out over the water, projecting far enough to give a clear view of the bluegreen water and jagged rocks directly below. The young men and women here on the rock are all very wet, which is odd considering the only source of water is a truly appalling distance away, straight down. You also see a patch of grass near the woods, where a couple of youngsters are lounging and chatting.
Obvious paths: none.

>dive water

You approach the edge of the rock and strike a diving pose, but two of the young divers appear on either side of you. Each one takes an arm and they hustle you back away from the edge, without much care for your dignity.

A young man looks you over and says "I don't think so. It's obvious to anyone that you're in no kind of shape for this, and if you kill yourself we'll get in trouble. How about if you just watch?" He grins at you, and then he and his companion leave you alone and go back to their friends. One of them says something in a low voice, and then several look over their shoulders at you, chuckling.

Room Description:

[Fayrin's Rest, Telgi Mod'Sunhin]
Massive oaks extend a silver-grey canopy of leaves that fades quickly into inkblack darkness from here to the east, north and south. The air shimmers and whispers softly, sibilantly, of long growth and and gradual decay. A few slender cedars and elms mark the beginning of a denser forest to the west, one marked by greater undergrowth and steeper rises.
You also see a small, faintly glowing obelisk.
Obvious paths: east, southwest.

The obelisk reads:
Upon this site one evening the bardess Aurilae Cui'Gweld entertained a troll general and his entourage for a night of stories and songs, preventing his army from attacking Fayrin's Rest until Elven reinforcements could arrive in the village. Her efforts were discovered the following morning, and she was given to the general's troops. Her spirit remains here, honored. Traveller, think well on Aurilae's sacrifice, and the value of a soul that weighs life with such refined sensibility.

I'm torn between Recall and Perceive History. I guess I'm not totally clear on the difference sometimes, but I think this could qualify for either. I see Recall as being historical knowledge, rumors, general information or lore that has passed on through the ages. Something that anyone could have experienced or learned, but probably didn't. And Perceive as being a serious emotional/supernatural event that is so powerful (or unresolvable) that it leaves an indelible mark that is magically tangible in some respect. Something very personal.

Raesh,

I'm almost positive that there is something up with the room count or that rooms have been dropped or lost somehow. Could your crawler have counted things that aren't available to us? Can you run the crawler through other instances to see if they match up?

I'm not really interested in the contest part, I just want to find them to document everything. (Although contests always get me feeling competitive)! And I'm having a lot of fun searching the realms, so thank you again!

I added 3 to P2 that you missed. Maybe they weren't in TF? That still leaves us 4 short, though. I only added the roomnames; I don't have the rest of the info at the moment.

Also, I searched high and low for that fountain in Muspar'i, and couldn't find it. Is it in the citizen only area?

I've found two on the islands so far, but I'm starting to exhaust areas where I think there could be the remaining two. It's been exciting to track them down, especially one in particular. I'll be sure to add to them to Elanthipedia once the contest is over. I've got a lot of ideas on where I think a recall or something could be put into place though.

The fountain is in Shorka Square. Sometimes they release things in TF before Prime, but it's rare. I doubt that it isn't in Prime, but that could be the case? It's a housing area, but I could get in as non-Premie in TF.

I was hoping someone would have the one outside the cities! Thank you!

And I see why I missed those other two. I got a little lazy in a couple areas, but I'm going back to those areas tonight to double check now.

My guess is that there are a few missing in Haven and maybe one in Muspar'i, just because it's so rich in recall areas?

I still think something is up with Ilithi, but again I could have gotten lazy and just skipped something I assumed would not have a recall.

Thanks!

I went ahead and added what I had that wasn't yet added. It was pretty much just the recall text for a few that had been identified in p2, as well as the Faldesu River recall. Also, if someone down around Leth wants to pick up the "first line of room description" for the p1 recalls down there, I'll see about getting the ones for the ones around Crossing that I had added. (In hindsight, I should've picked those up when I was hunting, but I didn't know any better at the time.)

I decided to update Elanthipedia with the two recalls I found on the islands and type up my own thoughts on the islands.

I think both of the recalls I found count as on Ratha, but one was outside of the city so I'm not entirely sure. One was a sort of "lost" recall in that it's a replacement of the older recall that was around when Yaziyi was still on the island. I don't know if people just assumed the old one was gone and never checked for the replacement or if it was more recently added.

The other is in the Selkie/Merrows area north of the city. Which I had entirely forgotten about over the years because I believe the original Bardic link to the area, in which the coral shintu gains the friendship of the Selkies, no longer works. I'm not sure. I only remembered it because I stumbled on "A Bard's Adventure of Discovery" in one of the Ratha libraries and made the good decision to read it! Good stuff!

If the coral shintu no longer works it would be nice to fix it. And can it be changed to being waterproof? Or is it waterproof, I just keep getting messages about water soaking it anyway?

The lore behind the selkies is a perfect example of the sort of little in game tidbits of information linked to the Bard Guild that I enjoy and would like to see more of.

I had some other ideas for the islands based on areas where I thought a recall should be but didn't find out.

I don't think it would technically count as a recall history, but it would be nice if you could recall the harpsichord, cello, and drums in Hotagi'rath Theater in Ratha as you can with other hand held instruments.

I was a little disappointed that the Boyer in Aesry didn't have a recall, as usually I notice that recalls related to "So and so loves so and so" or "So and so married so and so" work for both individuals. The poor Raeloka loves Woodbyne but we haven't heard anything about his feelings?! That poor girl! But you can even ask Woodbyne and he'll talk about her. Will they ever find true love?!
