Crafting For Barbs 10/24/2010 11:49 AM CDT

Just curious...

What is everyones 'tentative' plans to have your Barbarian characters do when the new crafts come out.

We will be getting 1 career and 1 hobby correct?

My plan is to place my career in weaponsmithing for obvious reasons. (we are weighted towards that with 3 extra techs)

My hobby I am not so sure about. I am leaning towards carving primarily for sling ammo because I am a heavy sling user. But there is other things that intrigue me as well. Like Tinkering for Crossbows, or Shaping for Bows, or Tailoring to make slings (is that right?)

Where does blacksmithing fit in? Do you need any type of blacksmithing to be better at weaponsmithing?

Also, just for fun, who has the highest mech out there? Any Barbs with 800 or more?

Until it's all laid out I have no plans for Drevid.

The only crafting my barb has ever been or would ever be interested in is crossbows and bolts. Patiently waiting.

Weaponsmithing as a career, and either blacksmithing (for tools) or artistry (to make my blunts look like a million dollars).

Og will likely take some form of artistic or embellishment craft as his career choice. He may or may not take one of the direct weapon creation crafts as his hobby, depending on how the techniques pan out. He's much more likely to take up some sort of craft useful for making "barbarian enchantment" sort of objects than weaponry, though.

Not sure, and I'll probably wait a few months before I bother to divest myself of my bits/ranks if that's an option.

Weaponsmith for sure for me... specializing in BIG weapons. Two handed and pole ranged. I was going to take mining as a hobby, but that is not a career. So I am not sure on a hobby. Black smithing.. Gem cutting...

Most likely weaponsmithing and tanning. I like being as self sufficient as possible.

Blacksmithing will contain ingot smelting, tool forging and wrought metal item creation(furniture, containers, etc). Anyone can use Forging skill to smelt metal into ingot form. However, several Blacksmithing techniques will be available to improve, speed up and assist in the smelting process.

Ingots then become the raw ingredient for toolmaking, weaponsmithing and armorsmithing.

Nah, the process shouldn't be much more complicated than what you have now. If anything it will be easier since the instruction book and associated messaging will tell you exactly what needs to be done. You'll likely see Blacksmithing ahead of Weapon and Armor smithing because I already had most of it done before I switched gears to work on Barbarians, and it will be a neutral testing ground for the system.

As of right now I have no interest in any of the new crafts. But I'm so looking forward to the guild re-write.

Pfft. Lirums are for snobs. I prefer Kronars or Dokoras.

The dokora is the currency of a true snob. Looking forward to this festival.
