Expertise is learned from either using Advanced Combat Maneuvers (ACM), which will train Expertise no matter the level of the critter you are hunting, or Barbarian Combat Maneuvers (BCM), known as self analyzes, which will only train Expertise if the critter will train the weapon you are using.

Do I need to build a fire and analyze flame? I tried analyze rat and followed the steps suggested. I tried analyze my character name and it said I had no steps to complete. I’m supposed to train expertise and I think warding to advance but I’m confused. I tried with empty hands palmstrike rat and some of the others from acm page and the system doesn’t recognize the commands. I am very confused.

No need to build a fire. You're analyzing and stoking your metaphysical inner fire resources when you analyze flame, not a literal flame.

Analyzing the rat is something anyone can do as a tactical combo. They're very similar to Barbarian Combat Maneuvers which are Barbarian-only. When you successfully analyze a target it will generate a short combination of attack commands. If you complete those attacks in order within the analyze timer window it'll teach you tactics skill (assuming you're analyzing something that challenges your tactics skill) and also apply a debuff on your target. Tactics skill is based on the Lore skillset and it's also pretty handy if you keep it trained at level. If you analyze a target multiple times it will increase the power of the debuff when you eventually complete the attack combo.
