Roar Justice 10/06/2012 11:02 AM CDT
I know probably most of the work is probably/maybe done on the new roars, but I was curious about how justice (or the new version of justice) works in Barb x.0.

I really like the roar - except for its obvious flaws - ie the opponent can just pick their weapon right back up instantly.

I know some RT is being added to roars, so this would make plain old justice worthless, and I am sure you guys thought of that already, but I wanted to throw out an idea I thought of and also was wondering what is the current plan for this type of roar?

My idea would be to combine two of our current roars, justice and insane laughter or death's lullaby (not sure which I don't have either) But the idea would be to roar and give the person the shakes with associated small RT, during this shaking period the person would drop their weapon. It would have a pulsing affect so it would pulse a few times before it ended, each time with the chance for RT and a chance to drop their weapon. Sort of like that spell that re-webs over and over even if you break out of it.

Codiax: probably not but who knows
Squanto: maybe moonwalk faster on the iceroad with enough reflex, athletics & xibar up?
Codiax: lol yeah totally. have to sing ice ice baby to make it work

Being called 'Roar Justice', perhaps it could be allowed in justice systems? It is a little oxymoronic to save Elanthia and get arrested for disturbing the peace.

Most of the time justice is turned off during invasions. Maybe someone forgot.

One of the original rules for 3.0 was the removal of all abilities that allow folks to drop things. The CE resource hit from dealing with item loss and theft and griefing was getting to be too much. So right now roar Justice doesn't exist in the new set of Barb abilities. At some point we'll revisit this and see if improvements can be made that will still allow such abilities to exist.

Sounds like that "Beside foot" inventory slot is looking mighty fine right now. Tingle, Roar Justice, etc can drop items from hands in to the "Beside foot" slot, or whatever it ends up getting called. This would prevent parrying or attacking due to weapon not being in hand, but would still leave the item in person's inventory so it can not be stolen, etc.

Other games produce a similar effect by just disabling weapon/arm use for a period. Not sure if DR could manage to temp-flag parry stance as 0, or flag a weapon as not-usable for a few seconds, without massive processing issues and balancing issues, not to mention things getting stuck/flagged permanently.

That was my general thought as well. I think the same effect can be achieved via any number of disablers (immobilize, root, disarm ability to attack for a period, whatever).

The problem with preventing limb-use is having to edit several hundred verbs to acknowledge the new flag. It can be done, but it isn't as high a priority as other things right now.

So wait... You aren't going to allow barbs to make PC's drop their weapons, but you are going to allow "BLIZZARDS IN THE DESERT"??? COME ON!
