AutoLoot in DR:Test 01/24/2019 05:28 PM CST
Hi folks. GM McWordy here to talk about something new!

I've pushed a new AutoLoot system in DR:Test. Feel free to hop over and play with it. You can get a lootsack from the table at Crossing Town Green North. It is and isn't what you might think at first, so let me give an overview!

What it is:
Autoloot is a new verb that lets you toggle which types of loot you want to automatically pick up when you search/loot creatures. To use it, it requires a special container. For the sake of keeping language clear when talking about this system, we're going to call them "lootsacks", but the actual container has no restrictions on what it can be named. A pouch, backpack, satchel, etc could all be lootsacks if they have the appropriate script on them. I know we have released a couple of "lootsack" noun containers over the years -- to be clear, those are NOT a part of this system.

If you don't have a valid lootsack held, worn or at your feet, you can't use the autoloot verb/benefits. Assuming you do, be sure to use AUTOLOOT ON to turn the ability on. There may be times where you don't want things automatically moved, so you can use AUTOLOOT OFF to disable it! Likewise, if you want to quickly turn everything on (or off), you can use AUTOLOOT ALL ON/OFF.

So! Now that you have your lootsack, toggled the stuff you're interested in, and made sure the ability itself is turned on, you're ready to go hunting! When you kill a creature and LOOT it, any treasure that matches your toggled-on options will immediately end up in your lootsack (or pockets in the case of coins) instead of going to the ground. Woo! This is a benefit for us by having less cluttered hunting areas with tons of loot lying about triggering the janitor, and it helps you secure your loot from the janitor or thefts from being on the ground! Win/win!

Do note, lootsacks have a limited size. They're similar to the 'hold anything' pouches from Hollow Eve / Corn Maze in that they don't care how big or heavy the items going in are, but there is a limit to the number of items. Additionally, lootsacks (should) ONLY allow things to be placed in them via the autoloot mechanics. You shouldn't be able to stow/put anything in directly. As such, when you take something out, it stays out, no putting it back. Limited capacity may mean you don't want to store ammo or certain other things inside, but it's your choice! You CAN fill gem pouches from them.

What it isn't:
There was some confusion during testing, so I want to clarify this here. The autoloot mechanics do NOT override LOOT. LOOT has several options to let you determine what you want to get from creatures. You can LOOT ALL to get the weapons/armor they're wearing, coins, gems, boxes, special feeder items...everything. The standard LOOT by itself ignores their gear and just goes for treasure (coins/gems/boxes/feeder items). If you use AutoLoot to turn on weapons and armor, and then LOOT GOBLIN -- you're not going to get their sword/shield, because LOOT GOBLIN just spawns coins/gems/boxes/feeder items. If you LOOT GOBLIN ALL...then their sword/shield would end up in your lootsack, too. Autoloot doesn't override your loot choice. All autoloot does is intervene at the point that whatever spawns would have been moved onto the ground and instead filters it into your lootsack based on your chosen settings.

I'm done wording! If you want to test it out, jump over to DR:Test and give it a whirl! Town Green North in Crossing has a basic lootsack to play with. Let me know if you have any questions or run into issues!

Were you in the test server?

[The Crossing, Town Green North]
A small path of bent grass leads to a narrow stretch of cobblestones between the grass and the privet hedge that stands before Milgrym the Weaponsmith's. The town's main source of serviceable arms, Milgrym does a good trade and has a solid reputation. The stream of customers, though steady, seems careful not to disturb the usual tranquility of the facing greensward.
You also see a town guard, the town green pond, a public listings board, a jar rack with a canopic jar with a jackal head on it, a nifty table with a ubersilk lootsack on it, an AUTOLOOT sign and a bamboo rack with a folded uthamar masamune with a jade green Elothean silk wrapped handle on it.
Obvious paths: north, east, southeast, south, southwest, west.

You tap a nifty table.

On the nifty table you see a ubersilk lootsack.
