paying ones debt 04/07/2008 12:24 PM CDT
found a great place for my paladin to hunt in TC - the heggarangi boars seem to be right where he needs to train for most of his skills <except HP, but he needs to backtrain before he can fight stuff that will train HP at level>.

Problem - he's a therengian citizen, and every so often has debt to the province. Now, TC is considered part of Therengian soil - but, there's nowhere in the bank to pay off ones debt.

Could this possibly be remedied? Or does throne city intend on going off on its own?

thanks.

Unless it's a premie bank (and even then it might not be a global bank feature), banks are not usually the place one goes to pay debts. Have to go to a town hall.

<< banks are not usually the place one goes to pay debts.>>

there are a number of banks where one can indeed pay ones debt, which aren't premium:

see shard bank.
theren bank
ratha <palace> bank on third tier

No it's not. TC is an autonomous city owned and operated entirely by the Moon Mage guild. Therengia has never attempted to make any claims to it, so it wouldn't make much sense to have a debtor for the province they don't belong to there.

Well the same holds true for Velaka, but as Gonif is fond of pointing out one can pay off Velakan debt in Therengia (and I think the debt shows up as being owed to Therengia).

If you could be a citizen of Throne City (like you can be a citizen of Velaka), I'd agree. Unfortunately, you can't. (Can this be changed?)

IF you get caught stealing in TC museum you end up <if you're lucky> being transported to the Riverhaven Jail, so yes, TC is under Therengian control.

No, lore-wise, it's not. Not according to the NPCs I quizzed on the subject, not according to the GM that owns the area here on these boards.

Your example doesn't assert Therengia's ownership of Throne any more than Enef getting deported to P5 asserts Forfehdhar's ownership of Crossing.

Actually with the getting sent to haven from getting caught in the museum...It states that according to the deal they have arranged here is a new catch or something. Maybe someone that gets caught there alot can post the messaging?

I just happen to have a log, heh.

That strange phantasmal light from the opal pin earlier seems to have energized your fingertips, leading you to believe that you understand enough of the Lunar nature of the alarm to give it a go.
You attempt to disarm the trap on the oak case...

You yank four of the copper wires from the back of the case, but fail to get them all out at the same time. The glowing red runestone flares with the brilliance of a small sun!

* CLANG CLANG CLANG **

Roundtime: 8 seconds.
R>cli rope
>cli rope
...wait 3 seconds.
A squad of museum guards enter, searching for trespassers!

One of the guards stops abruptly, noticing you, and yells, "Hold it right there!" Moving with uncanny speed, he rushes you and takes a swing with a massive sap! Darkness pools your vision as you fall into unconsciousness. You wake up, much later, at...
["The Exiler of Fortune," Cargo Hold]
Unused rusted chains jostle with the movement of the boat as it rocks in a watery current, heavily clinking together as the flaking steel serpents shift. There are no windows, no source of light, and no openings, but for the lone wooden trapdoor in the low ceiling, and that has been firmly sealed from the upper deck. Towards what destination this vessel goes -- or even if it truly goes at all -- remains a mystery.
Obvious exits: none.
PR>cli rope
...wait 2 seconds.
P>dance
You leap to your feet!
You say, "Damn."
>sigh
You sigh.

>>[Time Passes...]

The trapdoor suddenly opens, and a group of armed guards hoists you to the upper deck where you are knocked unconscious. When you awake, you find yourself being dragged through...
[Riverhaven, Ferry Dock]
A mass of muddied footprints occasionally speckled with animal droppings, gives a glimpse into the heavy traffic of the now quiet landing. The gentle caress of water massages the resting dock, preparing it for a new day. You also see a ramp.
Obvious paths: east.
>>One of the guards cries out, "Warden! Fresh catch from Throne City! We're turning her over to the Riverhaven authorities as part of our agreement! Come and get her, fellas!"<<

The warden, along with his men, slip from the shadows! The warden's eyes fill with fire as he intones, "So we have caught you, disgrace to our people! we have caught you, miscreant. Your time of misdoing in our fair city is over. Time to face the council!"

With a shouted order, the warden, along with his men, tackle you and bind you in chains, then lift you into the air. Congratulating his men, the warden drags you back to the cell.

Arriving at the jail, the warden removes your things and tosses them into a sack, then opens the iron door that leads to the cell and tosses you inside. He frowns at you and says, "When the council is ready for you," he says in a firm, clear voice, "you shall have justice."

The door then swings shut again, echoing loudly.
[Town Jail, The Cell]
A very small barred window provides some fresh air to this barren room. The walls, made of iron reinforced oak, would be barren were it not for the shackle rings placed every few feet apart. A stone floor provides the only place to sit or lay. A small wooden bucket sits in the corner but as you begin to approach it, the smell convinces you quickly that you don't want to know what's still in there. You also see an iron door, some cobwebs and Jackwater.
Obvious exits: none.

You belt out, "Avast! Prepare to be boarded!"
>jump ferry
Gathering up your courage, you take a flying leap toward the other ferry and land on its deck.

Throne City sits within the the geographical boundaries of Therengia, however its status is a bit awkward.

The Moon Mage guild does not officially claim Throne City, since a professional guild attempting to usurp the old capital of the empire would be taken as monumental hubris. No matter how power-hungry Taramaine is, he knows his limits. They "just happen" to be using the buildings and patrolling the streets.

Therengia does nothing to exercise a hold on Throne City, for two major reasons.

1: Telling a large group of Moon Mages and their Y'Shai to vacate could end poorly. Therengia would certainly win if it came down to an armed contest, but wizards that can teleport across the planet, scry your dirty secrets and see the future can make things...expensive. This leads us to...

2: Throne City isn't worth anything. There's no longer a strategic or economic value to holding it; the only practical value of Throne City is the infrastructure the Moon Mages brought with them. If the guild ever walks away from Throne City it will simply be a half ruined town, of interest only to Bards and the occasional Warrior Mage.

Fade and the thieves guild have interests in the town as well. at least in the museum.
