So with the pilgrim badge expansion, it got me thinking that it'd be neat to encourage more travel & exploration for those of us not as Holy-motivated...:)
What about a similar system to the pilgrim's badges, but for tourists instead, so a Landmark Badge! Instead of altars, points of reference like a plaque, statue, obelisk, etc. could be put in different iconic locations around different provinces that someone visiting would be inclined to visit.
So for example, if we looked at Shard, there would certainly be one in the Great Tower. Then Stormwill Tower, the Light & Dark Temples, the South Bridge/Theater, the favor orb "shrine" under Wyvern Mtn. Basically, locations that would correspond to what a RL tourist might put on the must-see list (museums, churches/temples, major public works buildings, etc).
And then of course, you'd need to have a 2nd new badge system for Taverns of Elanthia! I think that's pretty self explanatory...heh.
With the new badges, while it'd be neat to have a new system or two rolled in as well for something like "provincial goodwill", where if you RECALL BADGE (or similar) every x-hours like you do with your pilgrim badge, you'd increase your standing within the a "tourist" or "tavern" pool respectively. In addition to various titles on getting all places added to your badge, the new system would slowly accumulate points for you.
Then, when you have enough built up, maybe the "tavern" pool opens up free drinks at taverns for x-amount of time when you redeem points, or even a new location or 2 that is only accessible to people with x-amount of points accrued. And not sure if it would overstep into Citizenship benefits too much, but maybe the "tourist" points could be redeemed for temporary access to citizen-only locations, or again, a new location or 2 that are only available to people that have built up x-amount of "tourist points".
