Can anyone tell me where to safely train athletics around 50, out in Hibi? I don't think the walls have a hand-dandy-climable function, do they? Tired of being stuck in places.

How about the Archer's ford between hib and boar clan? I remember getting a lot of athletics training done in there before I went to the faldesu.

That's a good suggestion. Can't forget how high that teaches.
Also consider climbing the chain in the barbarian guild. It MIGHT not let you climb practice, I forget.
Also, if you can run past the nyads and dryads and climb the ridge out of that area (not sure whats required, be careful), you could probably climb practice the ridge for awhile (on the safe side of the ridge). And then work your way up the mountain.
I basically learned the majority of 300 ranks slowly working my way up Asketi's Mount before I capped it and had to move on.

I found wading through the ford teaches well enough at my crappy ranks, I can lock in a few minutes.
I'll keep the other suggestions in mind though, many thanks all.
