I'm headed out to my pre-mob for a deployment to Afghanistan (probably) in a few days. I'm curious what other people's experience was like over there. I know it varies quite a bit by MOS, so I'm a 42F. Which is Human Resources blah blah blah Specialist. I'm specifically curious if people have any decent internet access to play on during the oh-so-rare down time. The probably comes in with, I may also be in Kuwait or Manas, so I'd love to hear people's experience there as well.

Well, I have no affiliation with the military, but I read an article in Time magazine about soldiers running miniature ISPs with satellite internet. As I understand it, some level of internet is provided, but it is heavily restricted and either slow or not available a lot, which prompted people to pitch in together and get their own connection. So it may depend on where you end up.

That said, the lag on satellite internet can be annoying if you're used to cable or DSL.

Buddy of mine is in Kuwait, they've got "cable" in their barracks..which still has his WoW lag at over 2k mbps
