Of all the options, this seems like it would cause the least disruption and result in the best final product.

This is just a quick post to let people know about all the new things happening at Elanthipedia! Many of you are probably familiar with the site because of Ranik's maps, but things are really building up in other areas as well.

Elanthipedia is a wiki. A wiki is basically a site that can be edited by the community. Registration is free and it's really easy to get started editing. Your fellow editors are very friendly and can always lend a hand. We have several admins who are available to help and give advice as well.

We have a full bestiary, shopping category, and currently have a huge project to write "guides" full of details on all cities in Elanthia!

We also have a recent "hot topic" brewing about the discussion of player/character privacy regarding their roles in in-character events. If you would like to view this discussion, visit the link below. Any and all comments are welcomed, and all will be considered when we develop our final policy on this topic.

Since the site was taken over from Rawb and turned into Elanthipedia, it has been graciously hosted for free by Trel. Many of you have been with us since the beginning as the site has been passed between owners, yet Trel's hosting was always a constant. A couple days ago, due to some resourcing problems on the server Elanthipedia was on, the site had to be taken down. We're very grateful for everything Trel did for Elanthipedia, but I made an executive decision in deciding to move Elanthipedia to her own host.

She's now hosted all by her lonesome, with excellent bandwidth, web space, and database capabilities so any resourcing problems should be nil. The new host also allows for direct server access via ssh (secure shell) so I will be able to run necessary maintenance scripts with little or no problem.

I'm very happy with the results of the move, though it was frustrating for our users I'm sure since the site was down for a few days. I apologize for any inconvenience that was caused by this process, but I hope you will join me in my excitement that Elanthipedia is back up and hopefully in better shape than ever.

One small change is I will be adding a "Donations" link somewhere on the site. Please know that donations are not required or inherently necessary as I was prepared for the server costs. Otherwise I wouldn't have done it. However, any amount of donations will help offset this cost for me and my family. Note: Any donations will be used for maintenance and hosting costs only!

Ahh I just got back around to checking this. Thank you all very much for the kind words regarding my role in Elanthipedia's existence.

It's been interesting to say the least, and very informative along the way as my knowledge grows with the wiki.

As for the item pages (for the last fest, and how it's kinda blossomed..err...exploded! into an entire section), that really just kind of got out of control before any consensus could be reached regarding our treatment of Items. (Big thanks to Caraamon for doing the bulk of the template, form and semantic work while I've been a little remiss in my duties!)

I actually think at this point, with the introduction of the Semantic MediaWiki along with it's search capabilities, indexing items in DR, from fests and shops, isn't really a problem... though of course it's not Elanthipedia's primary concern. Once the system is setup, however, it will be amazingly simple for even the newest person to search for, edit, and/or add a new item.

What's good about this is how we can then turn around and apply that same system to other things contained within Elanthipedia. From NPCs to towns to libraries. So, all in all, I think letting the item cataloging get out of hand was, in the end, a good thing.

I've been rather longwinded in my reply, but it does encompass the concern regarding items (I hope).

I also want to thank all of our wonderful contributors, because without the DR Community and those who choose to contribute (even to just change one or two bits of information), Elanthipedia wouldn't be the resource it is today.

I hope I'll be able to continue to host Elanthipedia for years to come. It's fun, and rewarding. :)

You didn't look hard enough, I think. There's a link to the category page (Category:Cleric Spells), as well as links to each spell book. There also happens to be a link to the mana-type page.

Hanryu took care of the rangers with his ability guide. I seem to recall him or other players doing the same for other guilds but I guess either none of them were MU guilds or they never made it over to Elanthipedia. Good point, though.

I'll try to find a place to add this information, in my free time. Right now my project has been guild leader speeches which I'm chipping away at. (So far: Kssarh, Gylwyn, Selinthesa, Silvyrfrost, Verika, Ezruh, Esuin, Agonar, Annael, Jelna, WM Haven leader, Macfrae, Kalika) and title updates as I get them.

Anyway, Mozzik is right. The great thing about Wiki (it's a massive project) is that you can update things as you find them out. So everyone gets a chance to contribute. You just choose what you want to do!

I'm trying to post a bio of my character on the Characters page of Elanthipedia, but I find the directions on the help page too confusing! I set up an Elanthiapedia account, but I've never used any wiki sites and I don't know any programming language whatsoever. This is for a BIG project for a class and due tomorrow (last minute, I know!) Please leave simple step-by-step instructions to help me out. Thanks!

I really appreciate the praise, but keep in mind, there are a LOT of other people who have helped over the years, I'm just the most recent caretaker. Officially, Naeya is still in charge, and she is the one who hosts it, even if I think she's mostly in Gemstone these days. In addition, both Glimmereyes and Callek are indespensible, plus the hundreds (hopefully) or tens (for sure) of people who also contribute.

Also, if I did get paid, I doubt I'd do it. I do so much because it's a fun distraction from the stuff I have to do, and I can do whatever I like. The moment it became anything like a job, I think it'd kill the fun.

Making a courtesy post here to let everyone know why Elanthipedia is down.

The host (Hostgator) is experiencing some server issues across the board. According to their Twitter < 10 min from this post, they are experiencing packet loss and are working to fix the issue.

I will update this thread with more information as soon as I hear it.

This outage will also affect World of Elanthia as well.
