Funny, when I think of a Shuttle disaster I still think of the Challenger in 1986 first for some reason. Supposedly, no other event in American history besides Kennedy's assassination and Roosevelt's death had faster news dissemination among the American public than the Challenger breakup. Says something about the state of the space program from then to now, IMO.

You seem to be forgeting the Japanesse bombing of Pearl Harbor and the Al'Quida attack on The World Trade Center.

just as people see the triumphs, the whole world sees tragedy as well.

For instance, most people of my generation can remember where they were and what they were doing when neil armstrong set foot on the moon -- and when JFK was assassinated.
