Smelting question 10/03/2016 11:21 PM CDT

So is it just ores/ingots that get smelted or could weapons made of such and such material be smelted to get the material back? I was looking on pedia and it didn't seem to say exactly...

Yes, you can reclaim the metal in this way, although you'll lose a fraction of it. You'll lose 50% of the metal by default, or 20% if you have the appropriate technique.

Weapons, armor, and tools made in the new forging system, or otherwise specifically set up for it can be reclaimed for their material.

You lose either 1 out of 2 (untrained) or 1 out of 5 (with technique) volumes or fraction thereof. For example, if you're trained, you'd lose 2 volumes of of 6, because 1 for the first five, and 1 for the remainder.

You get the same mix as was put into the weapon, not pure material (unless the item was made of pure material, something that is uncommon).
