You get a fileworked steel tankard from inside your sailcloth cloak.
> [alc]: pour part tankard in my bowl
You tip your tankard upside down, but there's nothing in it to pour out.
> l in tank
In the steel tankard you see some water.

Guessing this is a no-go? Maybe only certain containers can do it? I'm sort of into the whole self-sufficiency thing so if there is a way that I can use a container to collect my own water someone in the world rather than purchasing it, I'd like to do that. Any ideas?

I think tankards have special mechanics to them that would interfere.

Most people use chalices to hold water, since they are designed for this specific purpose. Most chalices can hold up to 60 parts of water, although I'm pretty sure there are some around (possibly at the HE fest) that hold more.

Hmm OK, this tankard was just something I found in my vault. I'll check out some other containers.

Thanks

Any help with the syntax?

> pour chalice in bowl
You cannot find a way to add that as an ingredient to the potion.

> pour water in bowl
You must be holding the water to do that.

It's best to use PUT instead of POUR when doing new alchemy. You shouldn't have any issues getting the water from your chalice. If you do then you can just POUR it into another container, like your backpack, and then get it.

Hmm, so I can't pour from a container directly into the mixing bowl?

Also, how are you getting 60 uses of water into the chalice? I might be doing it wrong, but it seemed to max out way before that for me (at least the one from the Cleric shop on Ratha)

You can if you're not making something in the bowl at the time. Crafting uses specific verbs, so if you're in the middle of crafting something then you have to use those verbs to complete the step.

The Ratha is very possibly smaller. The crossing shop and Shard temple shop ones for sure hold 60.

I see, that's unfortunate. I guess I'll just use the storebought water for now since I'd rather not have an extra step of removing water from a container just to add it to the bowl. Thanks for the information though, I appreciate it.

I'm really impressed that invalid POUR interactions with crafting do not default to the usual POUR behavior of destroying the stack of liquid.

Never use that command, it is badly written and should be considered obsolete.

Well I figured out a way I can do it.

If I fill the chalice from a water source once, it has one part of water in it.

I can then remove that water with my hand (which doesn't make sense, but whatever) and put it my backpack.

If I repeat that process a couple dozen times then I have a bunch of different one-part waters in my backpack, which I can then take out and combine with each other to give me a single, many-part "water"...which is apparently not in a container or anything, but that is what is required for the alchemical processes anyway.

You should be able to simplify this a lot by using FILL MY CHALICE WITH WATER IN <water source> until you get your full chalice capacity, then GET MY WATER IN MY CHALICE. It'll end up being a multi-part water that can be stored wherever you want, since the FILL command used this way creates a single stack of water.

I actually tried that at first, but the chalice could only be filled three times before I got the full message. And when I looked inside, there was only three one-part waters in it. It might have to do with the water source though (I'm using a river in the environment), which doesn't allow me to specify the source on the end of the FILL command.

Maybe, or it could be the chalice. I tested it before I posted with my chalice, and was easily able to get a 9 part stack of water. (I have a 51 part stack of holy water in there already.)

Here's a list of water sources that you can try: https://elanthipedia.play.net/Item:Water_(alchemy)

That list is how I chose this water source. So much good information on Elanthipedia, makes coming back after a few years much more doable.

I'm thinking it might just be the chalice though. But even with this roundabout method I produced a 54-part water in about 60 seconds, and that will last me for several days at least (I'm just making potions for training alchemy). When I run out I might try a different water source (i.e. one that is targetable) and if I go back to the mainland I'll try some other chalices. But this will do well enough for now.

I don't think this is necessarily something to do with water, but the liquids code. I seem to recall being able to accomplish similar feats with alcohol and potions back when potions were still liquids. Liquids are weird.

You can also keep water as a "blob" of sorts in any container. I keep mine in the same container as the rest of my crafting tools, an oilcloth rucksack.

When I need to use it, I...
1. get water from my oil ruck
2. put water in my (bowl/mortar) ..which only puts one part water in, leaving the rest in your hand
3. put water in my oil ruck

When I am running low on water, I'll grab an empty container, usually my cloak, and run to TGNE in Crossing.
1. fill cloak with water in trough ...10-15 times
2. get water from cloak
3. put water in my oil ruck
