Klurn Odarien - Memorial 02/09/2020 08:13 AM CST

INTRODUCTION

Gneme says, "We stand here today, to honor the life of a great man."

Gneme smiles.

Gneme says, "A husband, a solider, a champion, a servant, and a friend."

Gneme says, "Klurn Odarien."

Gneme says, "Husband to Gwenddolyn."

Gneme nods to Gwenddolyn.

Gneme says, "Former General, of The Theren Guard."

Gneme taps an antiqued filigree clasp overlaid with a crimson shield bearing the embossed gold image of a rearing silvery gryphon that she is wearing.

Gneme says, "Former Commander, of the Cavalry."

Gneme says, "Champion, to Lady Athelisa."

Gneme says, "Servant, to all Therengians."

Gneme studies the faces around her.

Gneme says, "Friend to all... who deserved it."

Gneme smiles.

Gneme says, "Klurn did love to see people together. One of the only members who seemed to enjoy Guard meetings."

Gneme says, "There is an interesting Guard joke, how Klurn would often take long pauses between his sentences, leaving his audience in suspense."

Gneme says, "In honor of this, and because it will touch many memories of those meetings, I'd like for us all to take a moments silence, in remembrance of Klurn Odarien."

Gneme gazes down at the floor.

--- <Everyone observes a minutes silence> ---

Gneme says, "Thank you. I am sure Klurn would appreciate such respect, as well as the joke."

Gneme wipes one of her eyes.

Gneme says, "Over his many years in these lands, Klurn touched so many lives."

Gneme says, "I like to think that he left a small part of his goodness in each one of us."

Gneme says, "He possibly left small pieces of his sword in some people too."

Gneme grins mischievously.

Gneme says, "One thing is for sure. The memory of Klurn will live on with us all."

Gneme smiles.

Gneme says, "None more so than the lady I will pass to now, Gwenddolyn."

Gneme nods to Gwenddolyn.

Gneme smiles.

GWENDDOLYN

Gwenddolyn curtsies.

Gwenddolyn says, "Klurn was the love of my life. Most know that he was not my first husband, and not my second husband either."

Gwenddolyn says, "He was my third husband, and as they say, third time is a charm."

Gwenddolyn says, "He was so fun to be with, and he made me very happy. It's been very hard without him, and it's going to be difficult for awhile."

Gwenddolyn says, "There are several things I want to remember about Klurn. All of my missed gweths to him as he sat dazed picking boxes, either in the Cavalry stable or outside of the keep drawbridge."

Gwenddolyn says, "I waited long lengths of time for a response, and then he was like, Oh Hi."

Gwenddolyn says, "Our wedding was unforgettable, escpecially after I dunked my Maid of Honor Sortny in the water."

Gwenddolyn winks at Sortny.

Sortny snorts, loudly.

Gwenddolyn says, "One of the funnest things that we did together was spending the day loading the catapult with people walking by. What a great time that was."

Gwenddolyn says, "They weren't expecting that at all."

Gwenddolyn says, "We spent decades together in service to the Barons of Therengia, and we had many happy times together in the Cavalry. It's great when you get to boss your husband around."

Gwenddolyn says, "He dearly loved the Theren Guard, one of the last things he said to me was about the Theren Guard. You all should be proud of how much he loved all of you, and held you close to his heart."

Gwenddolyn says, "I would like to offer a prayer for his soul to be forever in our villa in Shard, carefully decorated with a mammoth throne and all his barbarian things."

Gwenddolyn says, "He loved that place."

Gwenddolyn says, "Also, a moment of silence for him again, remember the fun times, his jokes..."

Gwenddolyn says, "We will be moving upstairs for the unveiling of the statue. Please join Gneme."

Gneme exclaims, "Ok, lets head up and see this statue!"

THE STATUE

[Theren Guard Headquarters, Aerial Meditation Garden]
The daylight sky radiates through the glass dome overhead, creating an ideal year-round environment for the abundance of trees and redolent blossoms that teem throughout the massive atrium. Surrounding the garden is a multi-hued fieldstone parapet bearing gryphon-shaped piercings that overlook the surrounding community. In a quiet area along the far side of the atrium is a silver telescope, while a central fountain is encompassed by a pair of semi-circular benches, a frequent stop for those perusing the volumes on the nearby bookshelf.
You also see a towering bronze-green Gor'Tog statue standing resolute atop a mound of orc bones with a gilded plaque on it, a young Order librarian, some multi-paned double doors and a copper-plated sign.

Gneme points at a towering bronze-green Gor'Tog statue standing resolute atop a mound of orc bones.

Square of jaw with a cleft chin, the mountainous Gor'Tog barbarian's determined, gold-flecked eyes appear to survey the area in search of danger. Sculpted in lifelike detail, the statue captures every nuance from his laugh lines to the burly, muscular physique beneath his battle-worn armor as he stands at the ready. Clenched in a gauntleted left fist is a zweihander, while the right grips a razor-sharp nodachi. A testiment to the warrior's unwavering vigilance and fielty, he stands with a heavily-armored boot propped upon a severed orc's head, its jaws agape as if captured in a horrified scream, while an eternal flame burns within. Secured amid a mound of orc bones at the base, a gilded plaque displays an immortalizing inscription.

A gilded plaque reads:

In Loving Memory of Our Brother in Arms
Klurn Odarien
Champion of the Therengian Court

No matter your journey,
may your light burn ever bright.
-- Month of Arhat, 433 --

Ruea says, "It turned out perfectly."

Gneme exclaims, "Wow, the worksmanship on that! Even I'm impressed!"

Bluefalcon says, "Oh wow."

Gwenddolyn says, "It's lovely."

Cristalyn softly says, "That is amazing."

Raggard says, "Beautiful."

Bluefalcon asks, "Who made it?"

Sortny says, "Definitely a vision."

Kaelie says, "Quite the memorial, to be sure."

Bluefalcon says, "I'm impressed."

Gneme says, "I should take a moment to thank Ruea. Her imagination helped bring this together."

Ruea says, "Oh, it was my pleasure."

Thyon says, "Wow."

KLURN'S LAST GOODBYE

The image of a burly Gor'Tog kneeling over a coffer with lockpick in hand slowly coalesces into view.

Glancing up, Klurn stands up, stowing his belongings with a pat to his pack.

Noticing Gwenddolyn in the crowd, he gives her a sly wink as a beam of pristine light begins to radiate over his shoulder.

Glancing over his shoulder at the beckoning light, Klurn turns to face all of you, slowly studying each of your faces as if committing them to memory.

Turning towards his towering likeness, he lets out a deafening roar and a flaring flame erupts within the statue's skull.

Methodically looking over the crowd once again, Klurn purses his lips tightly and sets his jaw.

With his eyes glistening, Klurn gives the crowd a quick, affirming nod and slowly turns, lumbering into the radiant light.

The image fades from view, leaving an indelible memory in the back of your mind.

AAIYAAH

Gneme says, "As mentioned, we got a drink in our hands, ready for a toast, by another former General of the Guard. Aaiyaah."

Gneme smiles.

(Aaiyaah makes his way and stands before you with solemn purpose)

Aaiyaah says, "Hello and thank you all for joining us today to honor Klurn Odarien."

Aaiyaah says, "I met Klurn about ten years ago by the old calendar and immediately recognized there was something special about him. Now at the time, I had no idea of his service in Aesry so when he had applied to join the Theren Guard, I was impressed rather quickly and knew he would make a fantastic addition to our Order."

Aaiyaah exclaims, "Overtime, he did so very much for not just the Theren Guard, but for all souls he could help in large or small ways alike. I vividly remember him working tirelessly with his brother Jerde, to hold our Order's first trader run auction during the years we raised lirum to build this Order House you see today. Over a matter of days, Klurn and Jerde were able to raise more lirum than we had the entire past ten years combined. We had never seen that kind of coin before!"

Aaiyaah says, "Klurn had a grit and directness that took getting used to, but the man had a heart of gold and a work ethic beyond belief. We came to entrust him in the Theren Guard with any responsibility of our operation serving in every capacity from recruit to Speaker. He influenced our Order and countless others with his wisdom, strength, and service."

Aaiyaah says, "In closing, I could speak for hours about Klurn. While preparing for this brief speech, there are three things I ask all to leave knowing: Klurn was one of the most loyal, strong, and fair men I ever knew personally knew in this realm. He was someone you could count to be straight with you even if you did not like it. Finally, if you ever needed something done and done right no matter the job, he was the man we turned to many times."

Aaiyaah says, "Klurn was my friend and it goes without saying, that since each of you are here, I suspect he was your friend too."

Aaiyaah says, "Please join me in raising your glass, sword, shield, cigar, whatever you wish....."

(Aaiyaah draws his sword and raises it high!)

Aaiyaah exclaims, "To Klurn! We miss you already you big tog! Thank you so much for your service and leadership, but most importantly for being True!"

<Everyone toasts Klurn>

FELICINI

Gneme says, "Next up, to speak on her friendship with Klurn. We have the lovely Felicini."

Felicini smiles at Gneme.

Felicini smiles sadly, still looking shocked at the sudden loss of her close friend.

Felicini sadly says, " Thank you for allowing me this opportunity to talk about my very good friend Klurn and thank you everyone for being here to share in celebrating his life."

Felicini quietly says, " I was very lucky to have known Klurn for quite a while, so I am fortunate to be able to look back at all our years of friendship. He was always a loyal and supportive friend and I cherish the memories."

Felicini fondly says, "At the time we met, we both had an avid interest in trading cards, and we were constantly gwething each other and meeting to trade cards back and forth."

Felicini fondly says, "We both also enjoyed collecting yucky items and we would try to outdo each other in gifting these items to each other. I think most of the time he would win, he was very good at stumbling upon the ickiest disgusting things."

Felicini smiles slighty, remembering Klurns delight at gifting her with a moldy apple or a severed hand...or worse.

Felicini painfully says, "Its very difficult to accept that he is no longer with us."

Felicini says, "Whenever the orcs invade, I keep expecting him to pop in in his usual fashion, enthusiastically bashing them and organizing our defense."

Felicini tearfully says, "I miss him every day. His death was shocking and so abrupt and leaves so many questions."

Felicini fervently says, "I do hope we are able to find those culpable and that they receive the punishment they deserve."

Felicini passionately says, "His legacy will live on with all whose lives he touched. Everyone who knew Klurn knew what a generous and caring person he was."

Felicini passionately says, "I know he would not want us to focus on the sadness and sorrow. He would want us to be strong and rally in his name to continue the good fight, and to investigate what caused his horrifically violent and tragic end."

Felicini quietly says, " So, this is what we shall do."

Felicini quietly says, "I would also like to add that during tomorrows Spar, our gift will be dedicated to Klurn."

Felicini quietly says, "Thank you everyone."

Felicini curtsies.

SEREZE (THE PRAYER)

Gwenddolyn says, "Before we open the floor."

Gwenddolyn says, "I would ask Sereze to give a prayer."

Sereze jots down some notes.

Sereze serenely says, "Very well."

Sereze serenely says, "In that case, I do have a single favor for those whom hold onto such items.."

Sereze serenely says, "If you have anything that resembles a Wolf, or that offers homage to our Lord Kuniyo, the Grand Wolf. Please, hold them."

Sereze serenely says, "If not, turn your thoughts to serene, quiet meadows and our dear Friend Klurn."

Sereze gives a sigh of relief.

Sereze serenely says, "Klurn is many things to many people. Although I did not have the fortune of knowing Klurn to the same extent as others, I can say with immense confidence that one such as Klurn would be considered, now, A Paragon to his peers, and to myself, An Avatar under the eyes of Kuniyo."

(Sereze raises his arms upward, a soft smile crosses his face.)

Sereze chants in a baritone voice:

"Lord Kuniyo on high, Guide the soul of the True Warrior known as Klurn Odarien forward onto the great Starry Road. Lady Hodierna, welcome him with open embrace through your unwavering gates.."

Sereze chants in a baritone voice:

"Allow his flame to never dwindle, never falter, and guide those before and after him."

Sereze chants in a baritone voice:

"And lastly, may his flame create new ones, so they may illuminate the darkness in all, and brighten our tomorrow."

Sereze smiles.

Sereze serenely says, "Amen."

LORWRYN

Gneme says, "Next up to speak, Lorwryn."

Gneme smiles.

Lorwryn fidgets nervously.

(Lorwryn looks at her brother and sister rangers to draw strength before speaking.)

Lorwryn says, "I have a couple of things to say ... first, Klurn was one funny guy. I remember the time at a Tavern Troupe event where he brought a back-up group of dwaveren females and they sang about beer."

Lorwryn says, "It was hiliarious."

Lorwryn says, "Second, Klurn gave me the idea and the courge to open up my catering business delivering meals to different events in brown boxies. The Yum-Yum Tree and then he introduced me to his lovely wife Gwen, who was my first customer."

Lorwryn says, "From that I take courage and great delight that I call Gwen my friend."

Gwenddolyn says, "And it was wonderful."

Lorwryn says, "And last but not least, Klurn was my loyal friend. I will never forget him. He will always be in my heart, there to give me courage. There to give me strength."

Lorwryn holds a snifter of Pokekehekepi coconut brandy high into the air for all to see.

Lorwryn exclaims, "To Klurn!"

TATHALUS

Gneme says, "Next up to speak, we have Tathalus."

Gneme smiles.

Tathalus says, "Someone like Klurn, where to start."

Tathalus says, "First time I met him was a long time ago, I was trying to fish."

Tathalus says, "Emphasis on trying."

Tathalus says, "If I wasnt for catching boots, all I would have caught is a cold."

Tathalus says, "And rather than laugh at me, he took the time to teach me how."

Tathalus says, "Showed me about bait and where to fish."

Tathalus says, "Then came the jokes, wonder what we could catch in the Reshal."

Tathalus says, "With big enough hook.....and a gnome."

Tathalus says, "But besides that."

Tathalus says, "If yall saw him fight or spar, thats another place I spoke with him often."

Tathalus says, "The man was a beast in the circle."

Tathalus says, "The man had more sides to him than a puzzle box."

Tathalus says, "And all just as interesting and good natured."

Tathalus exclaims, "So, To Klurn! Wherever you are, may the waters be as blue and as deep as the azure sky! May the fish fight all day and your line never break!"

Tathalus holds a cup of iceberry mead high into the air for all to see.

CHRYSAGON

Gneme says, "Next up to share a few words... Chrysagon."

Gneme smiles at Chrysagon.

Chrysagon says, "Well as a young idiot starting out i liked to do invasions."

Chrysagon says, "Did not go well generally but i see klurn running about and sure he dragged me a few times."

Chrysagon says, "But as a mature idiot now i try to follow his example, got to know him and always kind and helpful, and well fun."

Chrysagon says, "So klurn."

Chrysagon holds a cup of iceberry mead high into the air for all to see.

RAGGARD

Gneme says, "Next up to speak on this great man... Raggard."

Gneme smiles.

Raggard says, "Thank you Gneme."

Raggard says, "I first met Klurn when we were both very young. we met outside the west gate of Crossing in Goblins."

Raggard says, "I first met Klurn when we were both very young. we met outside the west gate of Crossing in Goblins."

Raggard says, "There was a tree out there...not sure if that tree still stands."

Raggard says, "But that's wher we met...we both scrambled up that tree to escape the might goblins."

Raggard laughs!

Raggard says, "That started a life-long friendship."

Raggard says, "I'v wandered from these lands many times."

Raggard says, "And sometimes for a very long period of time."

Raggard says, "But every time I returned."

Raggard says, "He was always glad to see me."

Raggard says, "So to sum it up...it was an honor to call him friend, it was am honor to serve in the Theren Guard with thim."

Raggard says, "And I will always fondly remember those days."

Raggard says, "To Klurn."

GWENDDOLYN CLOSURE

Gneme says, "That concludes the list of those wishing to speak, so I will hand back to Gwenddolyn, who I believe has something else to say."

Gwenddolyn smiles, revealing the dimples in her cheeks.

Gwenddolyn says, "So I do want to say a few things in closing."

Gwenddolyn says, "First, it warms my heart to hear so many stories and see how many friends he had."

Gwenddolyn says, "He was truly a loving person to everyone."

Gwenddolyn says, "I need help with 2 things from his friends and loved ones."

Gwenddolyn says, "First, to defeat Viggu."

Gwenddolyn says, "That I feel we will do together."

Gwenddolyn says, "It will bring all of our orders together."

Gwenddolyn says, "Unified in his name."

Gwenddolyn says, "And secondly."

Gwenddolyn says, "A quick memorial and a request."

Gwenddolyn says, "His shield was a kadepa skirmisher's shield adorned with a triumphant war mammoth, and the armor he wore was a kadepa mail balaclava etched with dancing mammoths in tutus."

Gwenddolyn says, "Unforgettable."

Gwenddolyn says, "So as I mentioned before, Klurn was my third husband. My first husband was Pantelliden, a Barbarian. My second was an Theren Guard Speaker, Andragon and we had a daughter together."

Gwenddolyn says, "So Klurn was also a Speaker more than once or twice for the Theren Guard. So I want to ask for your help, and also that I am very relieved, that there is a woman speaker now, Please prevent me from marrying anymore speakers."

Gwenddolyn exclaims, "And on that note, TO KLURN!"

Gwenddolyn says, "Thank you all for your support."

FINAL CLOSURE

Gneme says, "I should mention in closing, up these stairs is off limits to those who are not members of the Theren Guard. But if anyone should find they would like to spend some time with this statue, please do contact a Guard member, we will be happy to escort you up here."

Gneme says, "Finally from me, thank you to everyone, who made it here today, but also everyone who made a positive impact on Klurn's life. May you all follow his example, and be the best you can in the days you have."
