I doubt anyone was extremely upset by it, but I understand the apology as well, it could have easily been perceived as in poor taste, if a person or family member was suffering from viral infection and/or had passed away.

My stepfather for example is a critical care patient already on ventilator/assistance - if he got Covid19 he would essentially instantly die.

Playing a game intended to express an idea is irrelevant when compared to playing a game nominally about something else and encountering that idea.

For example, if I play Animal Crossings, I'm certainly not expecting explicit murder or pornography, but I probably am if I play Danganropa or Honey Pop.
