The Perfect Home 11/03/2011 11:06 AM CDT
Two Parts -- 1 in narrative & 1 wish list

Opticus passed through the wrought iron gate that separated his yard from the street. The path of small river rocks was set into a bed of bright green moss and led from the gate to his front door, winding through an herb garden that was decorated by small statuary and flowering plants. Underneath the expansive branches of a solitary old oak stood a small shrine to the God Damaris surrounded by flowering purple Capsicum.

Among the homes of the Crossing, his was a fairly simple dwelling. Sturdy oak framing was shingled by cedar shakes that had taken on a grey coloring from several seasons of weathering. A single red brick chimney rose up through the center of the roof, and the home would have been entirely indistinguishable in style from many of the others in the neighborhood save for a large windowed skylight that sat prominently in the front.

In keeping with the home, Opitcus’ front door was a plain entrance. Large Iron hinges stretched across the face which was unadorned save for a single platinum star set with a small dark star sapphire. He turned his key in the lock and went into his home.
The front room was neat but well lived-in. The room was anchored by a large gold-flecked, limestone fireplace covered by two bronze doors which afforded protection from the fire burning within. Surrounding the fireplace were four old leather chairs that despite their obvious age were still in good repair.

Opticus carefully removed his shadowsilk cloak, which he habitually wore on his walks about the town, and placed it inside the ornately crafted, dark stained, maple wardrobe that stood by the door. It joined a collection of other cloaks and coats that he kept there for more particular purposes. Facing the wall on the other side of the door was a large desk where Opticus kept all of his enchanting supplies. The top of the desk was largely clean, but the drawers beneath held burins, scrolls, and all manner of enchantable objects.
Next to the desk stood a squat but sturdy bookcases in which Opticus kept his collection of Sigilbooks and compendiums. These volumes stood side-by-side and neatly arranged. Each seemed to be completely free of dust suggesting that although they were arranged fastidiously in their place, they were frequently used by the mage.

On top of the book case stood a glass case which contained a collection of telescopes from all corners of Elanthia. Carefully, arranged on felt covered stands, these devices were the sole hint of luxury in an otherwise modest home. He stopped briefly to regard the case, before opening it up to chose the instrument he would use for that night’s observations. He opened up the telescope and pointed it up towards the skylight overhead.

While concentrating on obtaining the observation he was seeking, he heard the cats playing under the bed in the next room. Like the mage, these animals were most active at night, and had an annoying habit creating commotion while Opticus was trying to concentrate—a habit that more often than not landed them outside in the garden.

The Wish List:
1) A garden to grow things for alchemy (deocrations would be nice too)
2) Skylight that allowed for celestial navigation from within
3) Bookcases that can hold ourt collection of sigilbooks and compendiums
4) Workbench/table/desk that can hold enchanting and alchemical supplies
5) second room

You can keep the cats.

I know for RP purposes a skylight would be nice but if you open the window in your home you can see the sky to enchant in case you didn't realize that.
