Dragonrealms 3.0 Released 01/19/2013 02:17 PM CST
Hello and welcome to Dragonrealms 3.0!

Dragonrealms 3.0 (or 'DR3') is the collective name for a massive serious of upgrades discussed on these forums. For a full description of the changes, you can check out the post here: http://forums.play.net/forums/DragonRealms/Discussions%20with%20DragonRealms%20Staff%20and%20Players/Game%20Master%20and%20Official%20Announcements/view/873

We strongly encourage you to take the time to read through those pages - They're very well-organized and maintained by a fantastic set of people. There's a lot of information about the changes, as well as frequently asked questions.

We also wanted to provide you with some helpful in-game resources - You can now access NEWS 1 15, 1 16, and 1 18 for more information. We'll be updating 1 16 and 1 18 as the day goes on and as more things we can help with become clear.

Bugs/Issues

We'd like to give some guidance about what to do with issues that you encounter. There will be a LOT of questions, and a lot of people who don't read the boards will be even more confused than anyone.

When you encounter an issue, take a moment to consider what kind of impact that issue has. If the issue is one that is inconvenient or frustrating, or if you've found a typo or something that's not quite right, the best thing to do is BUG it. These are issues that don't need to be jumped on immediately by GMs, and for the next few days we want to keep our dev GMs as ready as we can in case something major DOES come up.

If it's an issue that dramatically affects gameplay, such as a bad conversion, or missing ranks, or something that's making it difficult to play, please ASSIST about it.

Finally, if you want to start a discussion about something, please use the appropriate regular DR forum. The 3.0 forums are going to be switched over to Read-Only once we release, because regular DR IS DR3 at that point.

Here are some examples of issues that may come up and the best way to go about handling them:

Issue Suggested Recourse
Whenever you use a command, nothing happens Stop doing it and ASSIST. Usually this means it's setting off all kinds of alarms, and the last thing to do is spam it with the hope it might work.
A magic item gives me 10 plat, and that's not what it's supposed to do ASSIST
You start earning the wrong skill for what you're doing ASSIST
A skill is hard to train BUG it.
A magic item doesn't work right BUG it.
A spell doesn't work right, or has a typo in it BUG it.
There's a cosmetic issue (double messaging, typos, etc) BUG it.
You have question about how to train a skill Ask a mentor or post on the forums

A reminder to Genie users: When using the BUG command, use \; instead of ; to prevent yourself from entering multiple commands on one line.

Bug Abuse

As noted above, there are likely to be issues. If you find a bug that's exploitable for personal gain, please report it. If you're found to be abusing a bug, we can and will revert you to your original converted state. Please be a responsible Elanthian citizen and let us know when something is clearly broken.

Things that fall into this category are:

- Immediately mindlocking without a timer
- Free ranks
- Free circles
- Free items
- Messing with other people in ways that are mechanically broken.

We're not going to be draconian about it, but mech abuse is mech abuse, so don't abuse it. Report any abusable bugs you can find and the game will be a better place.

Additional DR3 Information

Some things that are worth calling out that didn't make the original post:

- You will likely need to experiment with different hunting areas to figure out what works best for you.
- Armor experience is now based on what how much of your body that type of armor is covering. Simply wearing gloves will not lock your Plate.
- Defense experience is based on two things: How hard it was to defend against something, and your % in that stance. You will no longer lock your evasion by leaving it at 10% - If you want more experience in a defense, use more of that skill in your stances.
- Cambrinth no longer uses the FOCUS verb. It now uses the INVOKE verb.
- If you are dissatisfied with order of the grandfathering of your new magic skills, you can use EXP SWITCH to move those skills around. You can do this for up to 24 hours after your conversion, after which time you're stuck with the order of your skills.
- Your mana regens faster when it's lower. Commit this to memory because all of your habits will scream the opposite.
- When you get converted, your stances are reset to 60/60/60/100. Defending now controls your stance point allotment.
- There are four feat trainers in Elanthia, all of whom teach all of the feats. They are located in Academy Asemath, the streets of Riverhaven and Ratha, and out near Boar Clan. I know this leaves P3 out a bit, but you're a relatively short jump away from Crossing, and many will want to go there anyway for ritual foci.
- The scroll shop in Ratha now sells AP scrolls if you're interested
- The Artificer in Crossing sells Ritual Foci and some basic spell scrolls.
- Sierack's Reagents and Fenwyrthie's Curio Shop are closed for the time being. They're reopen soon.

Getting Help

As noted above, the mentors are a great resource, and so are your other players. For the next several days, these quasi-OOC changes don't need IC wrappers around them to be discussed - Feel free to disseminate information clearly and openly. Please try to leave the gweths as clear as possible of ruckus - They're an excellent source of information for people that weren't as caught up with the changes as you all are.

If any issues come up, we'll make sure to use system announcements and board posts to keep everybody informed.

Lastly, remember that this is a HUGE rewrite, and if something is broken or unplayable, we want to fix it. We don't want any of the things we're releasing right now to be useless, so if it seems that way, post about it and we'll figure out the solution. This is by far the most constructive and helpful thing to do, because it will lead to a better game overall.

Have a great time!
