So apparently trying to cast Vigor on someone eats the spell (and any harnessed mana) while telling you you can't cast at them:

You gesture at Mazrian.
You contribute your harnessed streams to increase the pattern's potential.
You can't cast that on Mazrian!

Could that be made to leave the spell prepared if cast on an invalid target?
