A recent log I read makes me wonder...

If two people are having an argument and one person combat warns the other person (who is guarded), but then the guarded person instantly changes their profile to closed, will their PvP stance be considered guarded or closed in the resulting GM consult?

Would it even matter? My understanding of Guarded/Closed is that it would not make a difference, Guarded still does not allow unconsented PvP, it just suggests that the person might be open to the idea of PvP if the IC situation fits, but by no means does it mean they are definately open to it. If they accept the combat warn (you get a chance to yes/no it,r ight? been awhile since I have seen it) then it does not matter if they are even closed. if they do not accept the combat warn, it does not matter if they are guarded, they are still not "open".

Lately the GMs have been very, very good about not letting people play pigeon-hole or peek-a-book with policy and consent, so I can't imagine they would slam you for someone doing something silly like that.

I'd say if Person B doesn't stop the argument or what ever they did to get Person A to issue a combat warn, then it doesn't matter if they change their profile to PvP closed or PvP purple. Closed doesn't mean you are immune to PvP. They still fall under the normal consent policy we've had for a decade or so. Person B's actions can still grant consent even if they are closed.

Me personally, I'd go off the warn combat since it is explicit and like Person A asking, "Do you want to PvP with me?"

While I'm not sure it would be a Policy Breaking item, it's certainly Bad Form and warrants Someone having A Word with anyone doing that.
