Changing Profile 12/15/2009 12:36 PM CST
The mechanics of changing profile are... REALLY REALLY bad right now and need serious review with accuse.

I'd never really changed profile before... but it's absurd.

To give an example what I'm talking about:

I get accused last night. Okay I slipped up. Forced open 2 hours. I'm a lowbie, some HLCs are after me... I was lucky to get my gear back and go hide in a hole. Punishment for making a mistake.

2 hours pass. Still can't go back to guarded (And let me tell you, if you're a lowbie necro you do NOT want to be open right now. There are too many IC people hunting for you and even too many random OOC give aways that if someone happens to catch while you're stuck open... you're dead.)

Huh. Wow. Never got a warning my social was getting high or anything but musta been perverse. That's kinda crazy, but I guess it's six hours. Maybe I'll risk getting that last half rank of hiding I need before bed and deal with this in the morning.

::more out of town deaths being hunted by HCLs::

Okay then. Where's Reaperscythe when you need him?

Guess I'll wait six hours.

Eventually it gets too late at night. Lot off.

Log on in the morning. Thank god, I can toggle it back to guarded!

>>Since you are changing from an OPEN PvP setting to a GUARDED setting, you will have to wait approximately one hour (of being logged in) before the GUARDED setting will kick in.

So we're up to 7 hours (minimum) from my first time being forced open.

And my understanding is currently once I do go back to guarded if I get caught again instead of being the 2/6 hours due to the mechanics of how often you can change profile it'll actually 48 hours of Open.

sounds to me like you chose the wrong guild.

profile works fine.

No, it doesn't, because currently it's not doing what the GMs have stated it's intended to be doing.

The GMs have stated the intention is 2/6 hours. That's currently not what it's doing. Therefor it's not working correctly.

I don't see how this is hard to follow.

7 hours of pvp open for a minor transgression seems harsh. It's not like he is gwething "im a necro."

Gonif,

Are you suggesting that a spell be written specifically to allow necromancers to move into an area protected by holy magic for the purpose of constructing a vulture heart candy trail for Khurek to follow?

It's not. Being forced open for a specific amount of time should mean exactly that, not that you get stuck in the mechanics of the system to be forced open for 8 times as long.

Let's keep it constructive and stop provoking arguments.

>>Downtime between removing OPEN and it getting cleared

I'll think on this, but I don't know that it will change. It always requires a bit of downtime after switching from Open down to something else, and I'm not sure I'm compelled by the arguments against it.

Is it possible necromancers could use a slightly different mechanic then?

Or just reduce the intended periods by an hour (So 1 + 1 or 5 + 1 equates to the intended effect?)

The simplest way would be to ask the Necromancers GMs to reduce the lock by 1 hour. I.e.) 1 hour and 5 hours.

That would equal 2 hours and 6 hours respectively.

I think that if anything changes a profile for a given amount of time, that thing should automatically change it back when the time is up. The player shouldn't have to restore his chosen setting himself.

I agree- if the system flips it to open, the system should flip it back when the timer is up.

I third the automatic switch back to guarded if that matters at all. I actually assumed it WOULD do that until I read this thread.
