F2P has led to a dramatic influx of new characters. Rats are basically bogged down all day, every day, unless you get up at 4am.

Can spawn be dramatically increased, or can there be a 'paying customers only' section similar to the premium section?

Ideally I want to stay in Crossing for the same reason the F2P players do (there are actual people here?!), but it's becoming increasingly difficult to hunt.

Have you tried hunting black rats in the farmhouse in the vineyard out the NE gate?

Or sewer rats in the Old Warehouse/Aesthene's Close?

Louts aren't rats, but you can hunt them right off the bat and louts recently got a gen rate uptweak out the east gate.

There are Rats to hunt in the alley beside Jack Tarr's on Ratha. The population of Ratha has been steadily increasing as Crossing begins to become a bit too crowded for some's taste.

Unless things are different from years ago, there is a single rat to hunt in that alley.

You could always try hogs out the west gate or death squirrels out the east gate. Or you could go through the office to the area to the east. No one seems to ever be there.

Are death squirrels huntable by a fresh character? If they are, origami creatures in the papermill on the NTR probably are, too.

AFAIK there are some VERY small tiers for origami, but they're meant to be huntable straight out of character gen. They're the ship rats for empaths.

Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

Death squirrels were disinterested in doing anything other than throwing acorns. And they hit me about 8/10 times, which would make hunting there basically impossible (character has 15ish in every defense).

North a few of the Northeast Gate there's a vineyard with all manner of critters, including black rats and silverfish in the farm house.

I'm pretty sure that area is premium only, fwiw.

Rolled a character to double check.

Rats and silverfish in the farmhouse, at least, are accessible by f2p players!

Silverfish slaughtered my character. I was just in that very area. They take considerably more than the 10 ranks listed to hunt safely. And that's with MPP.

At this point I'm thinking I might as well just pack it in and go to Haven to hunt frogs.

If you attempt to enter through the 'north' route you have to pass through the premium only stile. If you enter the 'south' gate, you don't. I was butting my head up against that just now.

If you're a regular subscriber, you could always take the ferry north to Haven and hunt frogs. Think of everywhere BUT Crossings as the non-F2P area.

I loved hunting in frogs. Good spawn, just as easy as rats.

That's really not how it should be though.

Crossing I the main hub with all Crafting Societies, stat trainers, good hunting ladder, Trader Shops, etc. Subscribing characters starting a fresh toon shouldn't have to look elsewhere because of the F2P invasion. F2P should get restricted down to give paying customers get a priority. For instance in Crossing Shipyard make the F2P only able to hunt the first 4-5 rooms, then basic subs can hunt those rooms plus the other part, and premium subs have the whole area.

There are around 30 rooms of just rats to hunt in and around Crossing. At this moment there are 2 hunters total sitting in those rooms. If you're an estate holder there are ~41 rooms of just rats. Still only those 2 hunters.

There are another 30ish rooms of Sleazy Louts. 2 people are hunting louts.

There are ~10 rooms of origami creatures; 14 rooms if you're an estate holder.
No one's hunting origami at the moment.

Sometimes the shipyard can get crowded but anyone who's a subscriber shouldn't be hunting rats for more than a day and it's rarely completely full. There are plenty of hunting spots available (other than the shipyard) without the need to further divide hunting grounds into Estate/Subscriber/F2P.

I disagree.

Room volume is a meaningless distinction when area spawn is capped at a total.

It's why there are so many 'please adjust spawn' posts on the forums.

When running my f2p through rats, we were all very cool about "hey mind if I join?"

With rats, at least, you and another hunter can share a room if you agree, and you won't need 4 unique spawns of your own to train defenses. And you'll both kill them fairly slowly, so can both train weapons.

Don't get me wrong, spawn rates later on are often abysmal with multiple hunters in an area, especially when you need four of your own to train effectively. Forget hunting with someone else if you train stealth, you'll usually lose all your engaged foes quickly. But rats, because you only fight them for a few ranks, are viable.
