So, is this what the players / GM's picture too for the chain blade from the fest? Roughly, I mean.

Not what I picture.

That's a pretty nice sale though.

That's exactly what I pictured, but I think a lot of people have the imagine of a giant chainsaw like sword without the moving parts.

That's what I was thinking at first too, but then I thought that's just a sword with a heavily serrated edge. Really not quite as exotic as like what I posted. Something like that, weighing about 10 pounds getting swung around would be kinda worrying to me, in the hands of someone strong / competent enough to use it. Would also explain the bad balance. Not exactly a weapon you could parry with easily.

That's what I pictured: a whip made out of sharp links of metal.

I thought of the bone whip sword from the movie the brotherhood of the wolf, but more metal. Though I can't find a picture of it. Your link is close to what it looked like.. sorta.

Thinking on it more, I wonder if it's supposed to be more like a chainsword from Warhammer 40k?

Yeah. With minor differences, that's pretty much exactly what I pictured in my mind.

I would think a chain whip except for the fact that it's two handed. Who needs to wield a whip with two hands? Not even Ivy from Soul Calibur does this.

That's pretty much why I wasn't picturing that. Less whip, more chain.

Hm, my mental image was a kusari-gama.

Lustrous flamewood carved at the handle with an intricate scale pattern is contoured to secure the grip of the wielder. Linked along its length is a multitude of triangular-shaped, razor-sharp discs, each one masterfully etched with the visage of a viper's head.

That's the description.

It would seem to me that the post with the chain blade link from amazon is the appropriate image.

Something reminiscent of a chainsaw blade might be possible, but the usage of the word linked makes me think otherwise.

Multitude of triangular-shaped razor-sharp discs linked along its length.

Definitely doesn't sound like a chain with a sickle attached to it to me.

<sighs>

I really don't want to have to backtrain another weapon but if that is a kasuri-gama I'm afraid I'll have to.

I always envisioned looking like:

http://verydemotivational.memebase.com/tag/chainswords/

which is funny because that poster came up right in the middle of the festival.

I don't really buy the picture that looks more like a chain whip, since chain blades are designated in the game as being extremely long and they fit in very few containers (even containers that fit other 2HE weapons). If it's a semi-flexible weapon type like many of the pictures linked above, then it really ought to be changed to fit in normal sized containers

It may simply be a function of flagging a weapon as "pole range = yes."

That combined with the fact that it's a chain with a bunch of nasty blades along the length of it that you probably wouldn't want to try to risk your digits and take time coiling up to put it away is why I assumed it has the dimensions it does also.

As far as it being two-handed as a whip-like weapon, I just envision it being really, really long and bulky. I also don't see it being wielded in a whip-like manner. Seems to me it's the sort of thing you'd whirl around and bring around/down in an arc this way or that to strike, trying to maintain momentum. As far as how you'd jab or thrust with it, that probably would require a whip sort of motion, and I'd just have to say "very carefully."

I bought the chain blade because I thought it was like the weapon used by Ivy in Soul Calibur. Ehehe. :>

So yes, that was what I was imagining.

I was really hoping there was going to be some cool verbs or messaging on it, but alas no. Would have made a great auction item if it was all verbed/atmo'd up.

Yeah, verbs would be really awesome. Guess that's an idea if I ever go back premium.

That's exactly what I thought, albeit a bit heavier version. I actually spent about 20 minutes after I bought it trying every verb or combination of verbs I could think of to get it to retract into a solid blade like she does.

It should retract into a solid HE blade via SWAP. Heavier version of the classic bastard sword, anyone?
