I was playing with my Swappable Maul of Doom last night, using it to ambush from Pole range, and swapping it to THE to skin with, when I forgot to switch back and ambushed from pole using the THE side....

I love my claymore but had been toying with getting a Greatsword just to be able to ambush from pole, but I had been ignoring the Greatsword within. Good fun.
