Armor 05/22/2008 06:02 PM CDT
Leather Armor: 408 16% perplexed
Light Chain: 401 89% bewildered
Heavy Chain: 163 83% concentrating

Ever since I switched from using Leather Armor to using Heavy Chain on just my hands alone, my hands have been impervious to damage.

I think this is ridiculous, given the shear amount of ranks that my Leather Armor skill is senior to my Heavy Chain skill.

That's my only complaint. Thanks.

Welcome to the joys of leather armor accessories. I think you're far better off with the chain, but if you want to try a pair of capped thick pattern gloves they might work for you.

On a side note, are your hands the only thing covered by HC? You might want to try a setup that lets you learn all 3 armors more evenly. Leather body and arms (tanned coat), with HC gloves/greaves(forged), and an LC helm (store bought for the eye protection) worked very well for a barb I was playing at one time.

Yes, merely because I <3 stealth and I have a superstition about wearing any kind of non-metal armor on my torso. Based on my superstition, it's just bad news.

I'll most likely move equipment around when either forging or the damage model gets re-written. I really liked my leather armwraps, but it got to the point where all enemy critical attacks homed in on my arms and whiffed them off. Repeatedly. The Light Chain shirt solved that.

Basically, my superstition is that enemies critical your least protected areas more so than your highly protected areas, which is why my legs(leather) now get criticaled up the wazoo instead of my hands and arms.

Leilond, send me an IM (HanryuDR) will you? If you're on the mainland I want you to try Hanryu's leather/chain set up. I'd like to see how different bard v. ranger ends up with hindrance etc.

You guys have got to let me know the results of that little experiment.

I am still trying to figure out which armor I really want. I love cloth and bone for RP reasons, but it seems like leather/chain are where it's at for protection (that still allows stealth). I am seriously considering having different sets that I pull out for different situations.

Hanryu, i think BEVERAGEK is playing a barbarian character.

Anyway, i'd love to hear more about your leather/chain setup. I'm a ranger with:

Shield Usage: 227 26% clear Leather Armor: 212 82% clear
Light Chain: 173 53% muddled Heavy Chain: 72 77% concentrating
Light Plate: 57 85% clear Heavy Plate: 66 61% clear
Cloth Armor: 67 07% clear Bone Armor: 47 56% clear

I'm also interested in having a few different armor setups for different situations but i know next to nothing about tanning and forging :(

Well we played around a bit with a few different set-ups, but he's got a lot of cool altered items so that makes things difficult. It was telling to see that wearing identical setups put me (ranger) at insig and him (bard) at fairly, in overall hindrance. The big kicker seemed to be that shield hindrance can not be worked down, or at least it can't be worked down a as much as other armors... or light hindrance on a shield is not the same as light hindrance on armor.... or (insert other explanation).

You're more than welcome to contact me if you want to try a few set-ups. We both decided that this is really the only way to decide on what a good setup will be. Fortunately his hiding and my perception were close enough to try a few tests to see how his armor would affect stealths also. Can't wait till we can appraise stealth hindrance; "Soon" right Zeyurn?

Hey, you know I'm not shy about contacting you. At the moment, though, it's just a non-issue for me since I both can't afford a new set up and don't really need one (at the levels I hunt, which right now is backtraining in frogs but can go up to -- wait for it -- wood trolls).

If I ever eventually graduate to something that damages me, I'll definitely take you up on it.

I wonder which guild has the best hindrance with cloth/bone? I also wonder what the bard guild's least hindering armor is...
