Brawling Claws 04/12/2015 12:43 AM CDT

Just picked up a pair of jagged-edged hand claws decorated with blighted gold veins from BtB, but it seems like they aren't reading when I GOUGE or CLAW. It still says I use my fingers, and they don't seem to be doing any appreciable difference in terms of damage over my bare fist (notwithstanding the fact that they may not be used at all from the messaging). If I punch, it messages that I punch with the claw, same with slap.

Any ideas?

They are for punching/slapping, not clawing/gouging. I know it seems silly. I had the same sort of misunderstanding when I first tried to use some. I think they are meant to be "hand claws" that go across the palm (like ninja climbing claws), not claws that extend past your fingers.

Sorry for the double post. I guess the more I think about the less my example makes sense. I fail to see how one would have a hand claw that works for a slap and a punch, unless it's a back-handed slap.

My thought was that they're blades across the back of knuckles.

I agree that it doesn't make sense, especially given the description by the NPC that it is of more use to people without claws (which to me implies that it lets you claw stuff).

AFAIK this is less an issue with the claws themselves and more an issue with the claw and gouge moves not factoring in what brawling gear you have on your hands. I think it's more "claw with your nails" and "gouge with your fingers" than "claw with a claw" and "gouge them in the sense that you're gouging a hole in them"

Uzmam! The Chairman will NOT be pleased to know you're trying to build outside of approved zones. I'd hate for you to be charged the taxes needed to have this place re-zoned. Head for the manor if you're feeling creative.

Because it's DR brawling and it guess it just uses the piercing damage message table you will, of course, gouge a hole in them with your fingers. Which is wonderful and should never change.

The brawling system is outdated and broken. Do not expect it to make sense.

It is supposedly on the list of things to get looked at.

So is there any way of utilizing the slashing / piercing damage on the claws? Punch only does impact crits from what I've seen. Does the attack use the best stat of the weapon but still message impact?

That's why I always recommend plain knuckles, because the impact damage best stacks best with the impact usage of most hand attacks.
