Combat & Messaging Fixes 02/11/2001 04:08 PM CST
In preparation for Natural Attack AI, several bugs and corrections were made around 16:30 EST.

#1. Damage to weapons was being misreported for all parries, and for attacks blocked by a shield which resulted in destroying the weapon. Damage to the shield which resulted in breaking the shield was also being misreported. You may have noticed that all damage from a parry caused "light" damage to your weapon, even though it may have taken a good chunk out of it. Damage was applied correctly, the bug was in the messaging system. This has been corrected.

#2. Minor bugs with messaging the success of a parry were corrected. Again, the combat system was working appropriately. The messaging may have been incorrect. There may still be some inaccuracies in messaging until the remainder of the changes for Natural Attack AI are released.

#3. Creatures conducting a special attack may have been messaging incorrectly for the level of success of the attack.

#4. Code was added to help catch invalid balance states during combat. There are known issues with some spells and with some brawling maneuvers. Please bug any incidents where a creature goes from extremely imbalanced to solidly balanced instantaneously, or where a creature is stunned/prone and still at solid balance or above. Include what spell or attack was used to create this situation (ex: I shoved the boggle, it was flung across the room and knocked prone, and when I assessed immediately after, it was at incredible balance).

Additionally, a pair of bugs were corrected earlier in the week which may have granted some creatures limited usage of Natural Attack AI. The benefit would vary across the creature types. The remaining bug [there were 3 IMPORTANT bugs affecting the original AI revision last August, any one of which seriously hindered AI for natural attacks] will be corrected in the immediate future.
