Heya guys! Here's a re-post of the in-game News 3 3, which I mentioned at the outset of last night's meeting. Enjoy! :)

[6/29/2001] DESIGN AN INSTRUMENT CONTEST!

That's right, you heard it -- design an instrument for us! There are a few things you will want to keep in mind when designing your instrument, so please read the following rules.

1) Only the first entry submitted by each Bard will be considered for the contest. This contest is only open to Bards of the fifth circle and above.

2) Entry must contain the following information in it: Character Name, Date Submitted, and whether the Bard is in DragonRealms Prime (Prime meaning Standard or Premium subscription) or DragonRealms Platinum. Entries MUST be submitted by midnight August 1st, Pacific time.

3) Entries should be sent to DR-HOOME@PLAY.NET and DR-DERYKA@PLAY.NET, and will only be accepted if they are enclosed in the body of the email or attached with a TXT file. All other email will not even be read.

4) Entries must be instruments of a type that can already be found in the lands of Elanthia. For example, you could have a shaman's drum (but not a dancer's drum), or you could have a lyre (but not a harp). I strongly encourage all Bards wishing to participate on the contest to gain listings of available instruments either from peers or from traveling to all shops themselves, in order to better acquaint yourselves with the variety of instruments already available.

5) Instruments may consist of a TAP description and a LOOK description, if the designer so desires. An example of each type of description is:

TAP: a silk-stringed rosewood lute
LOOK: Silverwillow chips are inlaid around the soundhole to form the image of a long-tailed phoenix.

Some things to keep in mind when designing your instruments:
- Try to keep your designs realistic in regards to how the instrument is made: Wind instruments wouldn't function with cutwork in them, for example, nor would tambourines work if they did not have some sort of skin on them.
- Try to keep your designs realistic in regards to embellishments: Mirlitons and other such small instruments likely would not have room to bear elaborate embellishments and adornments unless the design was handled very carefully.
- Try to keep in mind the materials you use: If your instrument is forged platinum with sapphire and diamond inlay, it would be a gorgeous instrument -- but a very expensive one as well. Should the winner's designs ever be sold to the Bardic public, they may be beyond most Bards' reach.

It is not necessary that Bards adhere strictly to all these points, but they are instead intended merely as guidelines to aid you in designing your instruments.

6) There will be five winners selected in DragonRealms Prime and one winner in DragonRealms Platinum, within two months after the final date for submitting entries has passed. (This is dependant upon the number of entries received, and subject to change after the final judging has taken place.) Each winner will win a copy of their finished instrument and one free alteration of a case for it. Alterations are available on descriptions only.

7) Disclaimer: (you knew there would be one) Winning instruments may need to be changed slightly, for editing purposes, when it comes to actually making them. All submitted entries become the intellectual property of Simutronics Corp.

8) There is no guarantee that the winning instruments will be chosen to be sold to the Bardic public, but there is a chance that they may. In this case, we reserve the right to alter winning instruments (beyond what possible alterations they may have incurred when they were gifted to the winners as their prizes) in order to make them more realistic for sale by a merchant.

9) Any questions should be sent to DR-DERYKA@PLAY.NET.
