Weird messaging with Bolt 01/22/2010 10:30 AM CST

Anyone seen this type of messaging below?

prep bolt 5

You raise your arms skyward, chanting the words of the Energy Bolt spell.
cast
look

You draw your left arm back and mentally place the spell pattern within your hand. You attempt to aim the energy at a <monster> with a mighty toss!
Your spell fails completely.
Roundtime: 1 second.

I've never seen that before, what causes that messaging?

Do you mean the gesture messaging, or the spell failure messaging?

The gesture messaging is normal when you don't target BOLT. The fail messaging means you tried to cast it way too soon.

Or with low concentration. You can tank concentration before mana snapping bolt as a noob.

You also might check for nerve damage: Early in my empath's career, she had a hard time casting after healing paralysis on another character.

It occurs to me that you might not be targeting your bolt spell. That's necessary if you want to snap cast it.

I've never had any problems learning it by snap casting without targetting. But my skill level is pretty low. Does this change later?

Typing target instantly puts a TM spell to full prep. You want to send the prep and target commands together as fast as you can. The best way I've found to train TM is to spam as many casts as you can into 200 seconds.

You aren't truly snap casting it.

Since you're not feeding enough power into the spell pattern to make it coherent, you quickly work your way to the minimum required.
That won't affect your current attunement very much.
Heatless orange flames blaze between your fingertips as you prepare the Energy Bolt spell.

True snap casting isn't possible without targeting first. That failure is with 1624 PM and 99 discipline.

Hmm, okay, I guess by snap-casting I meant prepping, waiting 1 second, and then casting. This avoids the failures, and like I said, I haven't had a problem learning.

I'll try it with target though and see how it works out.
