Dire bears 09/29/2014 09:43 PM CDT
Does anyone know how much skinning it takes to skin dire bears? I have 110 skinning with 25 agility and disc. I can arrange all but after 100's of tries (Been trying since 100 ranks)I am yet to get a bear pelt from these critters.

Just checking, but are you aware that arranging makes the skinning more difficult? Easiest is with 0 arranges, and it scales up in difficulty to 5 arranges. The purpose of arrange is to increase your chance at a higher quality skin.

Also, the best knife to use is a held "skinning knife". Second best is a worn knife. Reference: https://elanthipedia.play.net/mediawiki/index.php/Post:Increase_in_skinning_difficulty_-_03/18/2012_-_13:35

Finally, you can boost your Skinning with Hands of Lirisa, the Harvest symbiosis, or a Moon Mage prediction.

Good luck.

With 110 skinning you should be able to get skins with up to about 2 or possibly 3 arranges. Arrange all is the same as 5 arranges, so you will probably need another 50 ranks or so in order to be successful at that with average quality results. These numbers are merely guesstimates based on numbers and comments posted on elanthipedia and not derived from any formula, so don't take it literally. According to that site Dire Bears appear to be slightly more difficult to skin than average, so I would cut back on your arrange use. You won't lose any experience out of not doing it, in fact you'll probably gain more from actually getting a successful skin. :)

Thanks for the advice. I do use a hand held skinning knife. I'll try it without arranging them and see if that helps.
