Singleton, I've been checked rumors since the undead appeared but the NPCs don't seem to have heard anything they'd want to share at the moment. While it would be nice if rumors were released with Clerical and Moon Mage visions to hint at in-game events as they unfold that doesn't seem to be the case.
In the case of the treasure hunts, I believe GM Dartenian was using those to get the rumor system rolling. To my knowledge there have not been any new treasure rumors.
That said, players are able to submit a rumor and role play a treasure hunt.
Although contacts are picky about who they will share information with and the GMs filter any rumors players whisper to the NPCs. I think it hasn't caught on because it is simply easier to post on in-character message on the boards.
