Can one "trade" in a horse they currently have or do they have to sell, get rid it or something like, also if it is possible where can I find a 17 or 18 hand black horse?

With a trader's help, you probably could barter your horse for another one. As for those huge black horses, they are rare. But again, a trader might be able to help you find one.

only a ranger or a trader can have more than one horse at a time, and thats only by putting whichever other ones in "storage" <i.e. an animal storage voucher>
