It seems that if you are wearing an active item hider and mount a horse, the horse will become a super hider and hide all items - effectively making you nekkid!

I played with a hooded cloak (feature hider), heavy silver wristcuff (gweth hider), thigh bag (container hider), and robe (fluff hider). All hiders seem to have the same effect - that they hide all items - not just what they are intended to hide. SHOW <item> ALWAYS/NORMAL does not have any effect.

Brings new meaning to the term 'bareback riding'!
