Is encumbrance striated? 03/30/2015 05:51 PM CDT
Is encumbrance measured in discrete levels, or do the levels that we see just give us a ballpark estimate of the real number used in encumbrance calculations?

For example, if I am somewhat encumbered, and then I drop something pretty heavy, but not heavy enough to bring me up to lightly encumbered, is this an improvement or not, from the perspective of encumbrance calculations?

(I am also interested in this question for armor hindrance. Is 151 chain better than 150 chain, assuming the hindrance appraisal doesn't change?)

If what I'm asking for is unclear, another metaphor would be GPA... maybe you get an 85 instead of an 84, but both are still a 3.0.

The number we see is just a range, so you can be barely somewhat hindered or almost to the next level somewhat hindered and the penalty will vary accordingly. The only level that is fixed, which is a change from how it used to be, is none. In the past, none also had a range before light burden kicked in, but now if you have no burden then you are not getting a penalty at all.

Oh, cool. Encumbrance photoelectric effect.

Is hindrance like that too?

Are there any descriptors in DR that aren't a range obscuring the precise level of effect? Maybe wound levels as seen by an Empath.

Not even that. I'm pretty sure you can have different levels of bleeding with the same wound description.

Yeah, bleeding severity and wound severity are only linked inasmuch as the bleeding's initial level is set based on wound severity. Various things can alter the bleeding severity while maintaining the wound severity. E.g. an unskilled tend will worsen the bleeding.

In Dragonrealms, knowing is fraction of the battle you can only guess at.
