That is the message that happens every time. I have spent quite a bit of time hunting in the fens. Whenever they cast at me that is what I see happen. I bugged it a while back, but maybe that is how it is intended to work.

Me too, Brabs. I get that exact set of messages every time the swamp trolls in the fens try to cast arc light. Been happening that way for at least a couple of months. Location in the fens doesn't matter, happens in both low and high elemental magic areas. I must see that exact messaging at least ten or twenty times a day.
Maybe the resistance check is occuring after the first message is displayed instead of before? On the other hand, isn't magic resistance supposed to negate the creation of the spell matrix, not the actual spell cast? Ah well, I'm a bard, what would I know about prep/cast spells?

There's actually two bugs here.
The first bug is that Arc Light checks against the MR of every single thing in the room, when it should only check for the MR of everything at melee.
The second bug is that area spells still produce the messaging that the spell actually went off when it was resisted by MR.

Exactly. You fully prepare the spell, but when you go to power the matrix with energy it falls apart due to resistance, so the effect that would be caused by the pattern doesn't happen. In this case, it would be the disorienting flash of light.
So either this is a messaging bug with Swamp Trolls (i.e. the message about the flash of light is actually line 2 of the 'cast' message) or maybe a problem with Arc Light in general? If an Arc Light cast by a WM completely fails, does the flash still occur? Finding that out may help narrow down the scope of the error, if there even is one.
